Okay so I'm on the verge of tilting pretty big time for no apparent reason other than I'm bored and my stack has not been increasing the past couple hours. I told Ganador I was going to play a big pot with someone in the next 10 hands and promptly lost $200 to him with J8o v 910 on JQK8 board, so now I'm not happy. Very next hand.

I have a stack of $600 and Q3hh UTG+1, easy raise to $25. 3 callers and we take it 4 handed.

Flop: KQ5 (1 heart) pot: $100. SB (loose wild, bad player with huge ego) checks, I bet $60 folds back to him he says "I'll give you action kid," and he calls. I actually believe the idiot and think I might be ahead of him because he had been making some pretty poor calls. But he has a big stack from winning a 3-way all in coming from way the worst of it to scoop so he has about $1100ish.

Turn: KQ52 (2 hearts) pot: $220. SB says "That card didn't help me kid," and checks, I bet $120 and he beats me into the pot, WTF.

Now I'm kind of confused about what his hand could possibly be, the board is pretty dry except for 10J, Kx, KQ, 55, I can't really put him on a hand. I'm confident that he would play 55 this slowly too, however I thought his I'll gamble with you line on the flop was genuine and that he might have a weak Q (obv better than mine). To me his messages seem to be mixed which I usually take to mean weakness. Also, this douchey has called me "kid" two streets in a row and if I wasn't tilting I sure as hell didn't want to lose a pot to this guy now.

So what is my strategy going into this river, other than getting there?

I think he has a big hand like a set, terrible players really do this stuff with the nuts.

EDIT: I thought he said "that card couldn't have helped you" I still say he has a big hand..

Big hand is too vague, does that mean you shut down unless you hit a non pairing heart on river? Are you firing Q or 3 rivers?

fair enough

I would think he probably has a set or maybe top two pair, I would probably bet big on a non pair heart or a Q maybe not so big on the Q , I would check call if a three came on the river. Most of the hands here are way ahead way behind, so you really should try to keep the pot small.

I would have checked the turn... IMHO.
tskillz187
I can definitely see reason for checking the turn so I can get to river cheaply when I turn a draw and all that jazz, but I really believe what this guy is saying. I feel like he's trying to psyche me out with his table talk but he's not very good at it so I want to give myself another chance to win this pot on the turn and also I want to build this pot in case I do river a heart just so I can win a huge pot and have him look at my cards bewildered.
Lavitz
I like firing turn to weed out better queens/other draw and build a pot if we hit and he does have a strong hand. I'm checking river unless we hit a 3, Q or heart of course. If he bets river I'm probably folding unless its some ridiculous smallish 1/4th type pot bet.
Snamuh
Check behind on the turn and try to get to showdown cheaply, folding to a river bet U/I.
Ganador
Sidenote on villain in this hand : Huge super scumbag, who after i told him how bad he played a hand earlier(we have a long history of first being friends to me hating him after he did some very uncool moves, such as acting like he's going to check hands down with me then betting, trying to scam me out of betting by telling me he has the nuts and hes being nice when hes really drawing, then betting when he hits.) claimed he didn't care because "his" company just made a million dollar deal. Now normally i would not care, i would just think, awesome, this fool has a million dollars to lose to me now, BUTTTT, this is the same guy who about a month ago played a three handed freeze out with 2 other competent players for 2k, who of course busted him and he was then literally begging me for money. After I repeatedly told him no he begged a few others (this was at like 4 am) until he finally sat down in a 1-2 100max game.

This is jsut to point out what a huge ****** this guy is, and how much he was giving away with his table talk, when he said "I'll gamble with you" this was by no means a sign of strength, at all, he makes marginal calls all the time, and his ego is thorugh the roof even though hes always broke, never seen the guy leave a table a winner. Oh, and he calls himself maverick.

Back off the turn.
C/F river.
pokerplayer24
As played I think I push any river.

I like your turn bet only if you plan on following thru on the river. Otherwise vs a live player who will basically never c/r here im betting 180 and giving up on the river UI.
tskillz187
Seems like most players here are advocating checking behind on the turn. The problem with this to me is that I do not think I get to showdown cheap and I will have to make a decision on the river, by keeping the lead it's much more likely that I get checked to on the river rather than having him see me show him weakness on the turn where he might bet with anything and make me fold the hand.

Results: River was the KQ5h2hKh.

Villain open shoves into me, I instacall him and he mucks face down before I show my hand. Later he said he had 99.

You didn't even need to get there.

Yeah, apparently so. Would have been a miserable situation had I not gotten there and he still shoved though.

The plays people make always amaze me.
Ganador
Honestly, I don't think he had 99 here. One, he lies all the time about what he had, and 2, no one instamucks a pair, and 3, the way it played out i put him on 10 J, missed open ender and then tries to rep the king on the river. Either way, I like the way the hand was played as is. Checking the turn is for pussies, you give up control on the hand when you pick up more outs, and it has fold equity, no check, good bet.

I think you're right. Full stop.

I hate this play by the villain. Why wait until your draw bricks to bluff?

Because he's stupid and thinks he doesn't have to bluff to win cuz he might hit. Then he gets to the river and realizes he only has one way to win and lolzershoves. But, I don't even know if 10J is what he had, it makes sense though.

I thought J9 the entire time I was reading this hand. His comment made it seem gutshotty to me.
