I had no idea they were already working on the new Batman movie. I thought Batman Begins was pretty damn good, and probably the best of all them.

What are some thoughts on the Joker being played by gay cowboy Heath Ledger?

Movie Info

Yeah, I know it's a bit early to post about this movie. Let's just say I'm really excited.

You haven't heard of this yet?
There was a lot of talk a while ago about if Katie Holmes should play Rachel again.

No I haven't.

We don't catch wind of much movie news in the town of Bedrock.

Jon, you like 'The Prestige'? Another Bale and Nolan movie.

She won't; flaked out. Big story, a while back. Tommy Boy's doing, according to most gossip.

Rumor is Dallas Brice Howard or whatever her name is is stepping in. I really hate her and she's ugly, so I hope it's not true.

Edit: nevermind, IMDB says Maggie Gyllenhaal is in. Not a fan, not a fan.

With summer coming up, I imagine she's getting ready to do another Woody Allen bomb. Just a guess (I hope I'm right; I LOVE Woody Allen bombs).

Edit: can I call 'em?

Aaron Eckhart is Harvey Dent! That is so, so sweet.. have you seen " In the Company of Men" Dutch? If not, steal it online if you can, or rent it tommorrow if you must ,because you will love it, I promise you.

also, I loved Maggie Gyllenhaal in "the secretary" and will give her a pass for the rest of her career based on this movie alone.

It was okay, but that's only because I read the book first. I will admit, it was much better than the Illusionist, which sucked more balls than Elton John at a gay pride parade.

I'm really excited about this, Heath Ledger looks kind of like a weird joker though. I'm sure Nolan knows what he is doing so I'm not that worried about it.

I have not, but AE is my hero in Thank You For Smoking, and this movie, based on your pitch and IMDB, sound incredible. It's already at .1%, with 4 seeders. It'll take a few days, but politically I'm against paying for this that are of value to me, so I'll hang in there.

I'm guessing that they intend to stay as far away from Jack's Joker as possible. It would be stupid to try to rehash that manifestation of the character since Jack did it so well and so memorably. I'm very interested to see where they take the character. I'm very open minded right now and willing to accept many different versions (within reason). I think Heath is a great actor and I hope he puts the effort into this character that is necessary to make it work. For now, at least, I'm optimistic.

waits for your review!!!

I never ahve shoplifted DVDs, but in my anarchistic youth, I shoplifted insane amounts of books from bandn. I won't give a estimate of how much, because I doubt you would believe it.. I would donate books to "books for prisioners" like zinn and chomsky.. I styled myself as quite the anti-antiestablishmentarian in those days... my politics and behavior have mellowed a lot since those days, but its really amazing what a clean cut, average looking white male can get away with w/r/t shoplifting, since we fit exactly zero of the profiles. I knew a kid who paid for college shoplifting crazy stuff from places like wal mart.. he invented a key ( I never saw it) that could open those glass cases that held video games, cameras, mobile phones, ect.. The guy looked like Ron Howard circa happy days, and dressed from the Eddie Bauer catalog.

I'm mostly into intel-prop. theift. But, I dress like I'm in Bible college (polo shirt, Dockers, Rockports, etc.), I mean I just look like I got a 1600 on my SAT. I imagine I'm even more above suspicion than Ron Howard. Maybe I should look into crime. I'm really good at crime. I always have been. Whenever I'm involved in anything shady, I take charge, it it always goes super smooth. I've always wanted to pull a big job, like jewls or something; always watching Masterminds...I'm f-in' doing it. Wanna' join my crew?

I might watch it tonight ('twist 2 and 6am). I'll let you know.

Had a friend that claimed to have developed a shoplifting "system" for stuff like CDs. He'd hang out in a store with a friend and keep tossing something like a hoody back and forth for a while. So they slip the CD into the hoody and on the way out toss it to the other over the sensors. Not particularly sophisticated and I question the validity, but mildly interesting premise I suppose.

Hmmm...not doubting you.

I would just think all that tossing around would most certainly draw attention, and you'd have to have a store full of retards to not catch anything.

So they stole from Wal-Mart, you say?

that hoodie scam is silly, impractical, and I think would set off the alarm.. and it breaks pretty much the number one rule of shoplifting.. be as bland and non-suspicious as you can, do nothing to draw attention to yourself. I was at a disadvantage in this reguard in that I am 6-5, 270.. but I fought this by looking like the most computer nerdy as I possibly could, glasses, pocket protector, etc.

Considering it's based on the new graphic novels, it should be quite a different joker. It's not that they are avoiding Jack's version, this one is just different to begin with.

Kind of like the whole version, everything is darker and more gritty. Where Nicholson had a lot of humor in his role, I don't think your going to see that as much, he comes across much more sadistic and creepy.

My friend Jim used to work at Suncoast video (Now FYE most places I think) and he set up a pretty good system for himself. He would have one of my other friends go in to the mall, get a crate or bag of movies, shoot the **** for a little bit, and then leave. When the sensors went off, my friend would turn and look at Jim, Jim would say "You're all set!" and my buddy would just go to his car. Later, Jim would sell all of us the movies for $5 a pop. This was 5 or 6 years ago, but movies I got were Falling Down, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Requiem For a Dream, Pi, and a few others. Good times.

Jim never got fired, either. He just went to college and quit. I miss those days.

Oh, I put it on a dvd so I could watch it with some other people who share my sensibility, and it froze less than an hour in. What I saw was hilarious, though, and I'll watch the end this week, prolly. "Fuck her, let's get a sandwich"...priceless.

I watched this movie, Happiness and Requeim for a dream all at about the same time.. I remember thinking "what the fuk is happening to movies! They are so bleak and hilarious and nihilistic and awesome. Even a movie that won an oscar, American Beauty ( which is about the best "best picture" of the past.. i dunno.. 20 year?) had a dark edge to it.. I remember being so excited about movies during that time..

Batman Begins 2 using IMAX technology

QUOTE
The "Batman Begins" sequel will mark the first major feature to be even partially shot using Imax cameras. These sequences will be combined with the rest of the film - lensed in 35mm - to produce the final product according to USA Today.

Good. Maybe the scenes will be less hectic and easier to follow.

I saw Batman Begins at the IMAX, and some of the action scenes were moving so fast that you couldn't even tell what's going on. It was still entertaining, but most of the action scenes gave me a headache.

Wow. Sorry I missed this thread. I just heard about this recently also.

I love Heath, but they had better do a VERY different Joker than Jack's. I hope they don't make him do some kind of stupid voice.

It looks like they're going to do some kind of "Lou Reed" looking Joker. Could be awesome. Hopefully it will be as dark and evil as "Begins" was.

Bale is the MF'in man.

That's what's so great about the potential of comic book characters.. there's so many different ways you can invent them, and go with them.

I think Batman is just the best comic book hero of all time... so complex, so many different ways you can go with him, and the joker is one of the best villains. Nicholson's joker was a tour de force, but it also loomed too large over the movie.. he stole too much of the show. I think this movie has the potential to be way more interesting, albeit not as quotable.
