Maybe someone can make this a reality..
Basic idea: There are a lot of people out there who want to go "Pro" with poker playing and make it a career. This show could be someone's chance.
Show takes n people (say 12). Each week, they are staked a certain amount of money by the show which allows them to play certain games. The show itself could partner with a Vegas Casino which would allow some cross promotion.
Example: Week 1: People would get staked $1000 to play. They would only be able to play limit HE for any amount. This would allow them to choose the game they wish to play but they have to be careful not to go bust.
The players have a limited number of tables available to them. People from the general public can also go and play in the hands, but their hole cards may also be visible (this might take some work to make happen).
An alternative to this is the contestants could carry around "hole card" cameras with them. This would only allow the audience to see their hole card and not the general public. This would make the logitistics easier, but may take away from the game quality.
Each week a different amount is staked and a different game used. This allows a variance of games and levels. It would be interesting to see how well players do in small limit games vs high limit.
They can also use tournament placement in various tournaments as a ranking system. This would force players to compete in different ways.
Games could include: Limit Hold'em, NLHE, Omaha, Omaha 8, PLO, and even be extended to Chowaha.
This could be started as a team game, where the teams compete for total winnings. This could create some friction as players could ride others for not doing well but could create collusion issues if they were at the same table.
Each week, the bottom 2 people play a heads up match with the loser being thrown out of the game.
The top money winner 1 week gets "immunity" for the next week.
It would be interesting if they also played a weekly home game each week which would force money to move between players and also cause them to interact.
Poker Pros could also be brought in to help coach players or even take their money.
I think one of the biggest issues would be keeping the amount of information in a 1 hour show. It might prove to be difficult. A solution to it is to have each round split over 2 weeks.
Thoughts?
