If I check the turn I lose the pot, so I bet 1/2 pot for info.

My info bet on the turn would have been $8, but w/e.

I think villian has bottom 2 pair or bottom set.

I dont know if I bet this river. Cant see villian calling near PSB on river with one of those.

My thinking was that he had at best a low flush, and he couldn't call with AK. I could also get a split to fold. I thought the fold equity over a straight was worth the bet. I hated the thought of checking behind and losing to AKxx or splitting with say JJT9.

The only hand I have a problem against is potentially a hand with a lowish flush draw that pots the flop when behind and then checks twice after hitting, which is pretty damn unlikely IMO.

Did Villain have a wide-defending range in the BB/SB or was he pretty passive/tight? Was his tendency to float streets with marginal draws and then just check/call the rest of the way down even if he got there?

I was watching TV, playing 2 tables of PLO and playing the NLHE FCP Strat Tournament at that point. Oh, and I was talking to 2 people on MSN. And I had FCP in the background.

I had zero read on him.

Unless he's donkishly bad, I'm not sure what type of reasonable defending hand combination we're ahead of. Everything "got there" and if he applies maximum pressure with a re-raise, it's safe to say we can dump it.
BudBundy
That 6$ on turn is so callable for sets and even 3 pairs.

I probably shut down after he calls turn. I think we can use that 21$ in better spots.

Also if we are willing to 3rd barrel , potting turn and shutting down on river seems like a good line to me. I am not sure tho. A pot on turn is definitely folding a lower flush and puts great pressure on a set.

I don't like that 6$ bet on turn i think that's the problem in this hand.
simo_8ball
I honestly had no idea where I was on the turn, but I didn't want to invest a full pot sized bet to find out he was trapping me. I know though that if I check, he is firing out on most rivers and I can't call.

When he checked the river I was fairly confident he did not have a hand he could call allin with. He was definitely not 'trapping' there.

He folds AK (which I figured was his most likely hand), and also any hand that splits. That's a great result.

The only way this bet can be -EV is if he has a hand like 8h9hxx and makes the call, but does he check twice with a flush? He seemed to be scared of the turn.

Bud, I think I agree that potting the turn may be better, but it just seems like a 'value bluff' where we have no idea what we want. We want AK or a low flush to fold, but we also want a set to call with incorrect odds. It seems like we are just throwing money into the pot and hoping it all works out.
BudBundy
I know you like to make some sick thin value squeezes and you are good at it. But do we really want a set to call here? A sets xx cards can hurt us too as in he can catch a higher str8 on river.

I think i am more conservative in these situations. I want the pot on turn , if i can't take it on turn i notice that it is not mine.
simo_8ball
With position I don't mind a set calling a pot sized bet with one card to come. OOP I would prefer a fold.

I just feel that checking behind on the river is losing a lot of value from AK and splits folding.
