depends what kind of game you like to play. i can play pretty laggy so i like to have everyone on the table covered if i can. shortstacking can also be profitable, but i think it's dumb.

i would never buy into a PL game w/ 30 big blinds, but that's me. also, having a table FULL of shortstacks takes away from the poetry of the game (if there is any in PLO8 )

i forgot to mention this was limit O8, if that makes a difference on buying in, is 30 Big Bets enough? I'm always buying in max for PL games. so i also meant i thought the hand wasn't worth two small bets to see a flop.

generally, i play more conservative but in omaha even more so. trying to break out of nutpeddling.

If it's limit, your buyin doesn't matter, as long as you have 12 BBs on the table, so you can max the value of your nut hands, should you be so lucky.

it looked pretty to me because it seems to have drawing potential with two wheel and suited broadways for value both ways (and a little based on the frustration of hitting top and bottom two pair with A2 for a vulnerable high and no chance at a low) but looks are deceiving and i'm starting to see that it brings high reverse implied odds where i'm mostly drawing to 2nd nut type hands. just like any two cards JT+ will look pretty to HE beginners.

anyways, thanks for the pointers guys. Will be trying to post more hands but I really don't like the way Bodog's HH is forcing me to manually convert them.

Ramen you can't be all "glass is half full", "I have two wheel cards so I can make the nut low" here. You've got the 6th best starting low, and a high that may make a straight and lose to a flush. Or make a flush and lose to the nut flush. Or make the nut flush and lose to a full house. And when you win, half the time you're only getting half the pot.

I'm not saying you must only play with super duper strong hands, but your low is well below average and your high is mediocre at best. You are way out of position, so muck it.

Yeah, too often you're going to find yourself in situations where you're drawing dead, or to 3 outs, but have no choice to pay off.

My basic theory- from a beginner's perspective- is to look for situations where you can just RAM. That might mean having a hand like A44J, and flopping the second nut low draw, the nut flush draw, and turning some kind of weird gutshot or something. Unless you're a very strong post-flop player with pretty good reads on players that won't put you to tough decisions, you want to be able to flop a hand you can potentially go nuts with.

Hands like 34KQ can give you vulnerable nut-hi hands, and weird combo hands where you're still drawing slim.

Problem with calling these cards preflop...... catching just enough to suck you in to the river!
