I don't think there is a bigger fan of Layne Flack than me. However, I seriously doubt that Daniel will give Layne a rating of 10 for No Limit Holdem. Layne is good and when focused, appears to be great. But a 10? Even I don't think so.

he gave gus a 9.5 i believe layne is better than gus ,all of the pros except a few are very very close
but layne has the edge over them, its like he has a sixth sense for the game he was born to play it

When Layne is on... I agree he is a 10. But he lacks paitence and focus from time to time and that is what gets him in trouble.
In my book, Layne will always be a 10, but if I am thinking objectively, I am not sure I could say a 10. An 8, a 9... sure. A 10...hmm, though I would love to give it to him, I just can't. (Watch the US 2004 World Championships. You will see him do some stupid things and he looked bored or unfocused. It wasn't bad beats like D'Agastino or like the bad beats Layne went through in Aruba.)

Layne Flack used this system one night at an Omaha 8/b final table at the Bellagio, when the limits were $2,000-$4,000! Erik Seidel and I were staking Layne that day, and I was chuckling as I watched Layne’s display, knowing that the world thought Layne was mad as a hatter. But my enjoyment that night was twofold as I teased my good friend Erik about the goings on (“Erik, he’s capping every hand in the dark, and the limits are $2,000-$4,000”). Needless to say Erik was not amused. In fact, the very next day, after Layne won the event—and $88,000--Erik “fired” Layne. Dark poker, Layne and I highly recommend it!

He still gave gus a 9 Layne deserves a 9.5, I saw that layne started chip leader of the tournament and busted out before the end of the show it was horrible lots of misfortune but he doent need cards to win hes layne

Thats funny. A while ago, I saw Layne playing Thomas Keller on Full Tilt, heads up 200/400 Omaha hi/lo split for 2-3 nights. If that guy has given up playing Omaha, then Hellmuth has given up being a jack ass lol

Here is the quote from the Cardplayer Article:
QUOTE
“In poker, there are 100 things to do and you have to do 98 of them right. I played so many hands of Omaha. If you’re too creative, you don’t pay attention. So, I stopped playing Omaha. Once you think you’re good, you slip.

Hey... maybe he has the same relationship with Omaha as I have to chocolate. I always say I am not going to eat any, but then I go to the mall, I see Godiva and then I cave.

Don't get me wrong, Layne Flack is a very good no limit player, but to say that he is better than Gus Hansen is seriously pushing things. They both play very aggressive, but the difference is that Gus has better reads and math to back it up.

You are wrong Laynes a freak when it comes to reading people you musn't have seen him play before or else you wouldn't have posted that
i would like daniels opinion on this
which player has the superior reading ability
Layne or Gus?

I absolutely LOVE to watch Layne play poker. I started playing myself because of Layne (I was watching it on TV for a couple of years, then I saw Layne, then I wanted to play too.)
I also totally agree that Layne is awesome at reading people. His issue though, seems to be that he will still stay in even though there is no way the winning hand will leave the action. I have watched him successfully steal pots but I have also watched him call with crap and bluff when the other person had the nuts. I am sure other tops pros have done this as well, but sometimes it just seems like Layne can not lay any hand down.
That being said... when Layne is in control and he is manipulating the table, he is unstoppable.
Granted... I think I have seen Layne play 5 or 6 times and then a few times online. So my oppinion really doesn't count for anything.
I don't think any of us will ever know how great Gus, Layne or even Daniel is unless if we are at the table with them. One thing I am certain is that all three will take my money with no effort at all.
Anyway... Layne does have something that few of the other Pros have and that is sex appeal.

ive seen him on 20 or more occasions lay down strong hands immediately to the likes of phil ivey when they hold the best hand
just because he can read his opponents so well
p.s thearesa he has bad teeth

Other players wait until they can trap Flack and Hansen, I just think Hansen is better at putting opponents on hands. Flack is still a great player, I just think Hansen is at another level.

I'm not really pulling for anyone to say either Gus or Layne is better, but the link you provided doesn't prove anything except that Layne's opponent in that hand was incredibly bad.

if you look this topic Proile Layne Flack has had more views than some of the other actual profiles and more replies aswell
that is a good indicator that the people want flack
has marcel luske won 5 WSOP bracelets in 4 or 5 years at the WSOP?

I think we need to know the context before you can come to that conclusion. When did they say these things about Layne, was in pre Hanson era? Was this before Layne fell off the map for a while?
I think Layne might have the better reads when he's on, but Hanson is consistently on his game, so I would say Hansen.

I thought Layne played this well even though he came in 2nd. Howard was getting awesome cards heads up.

Johhny chan watched him play and taught layne heaps let him sit behind him while he played
chan saw how much potential layne had
of course layne was off his game and hes going to make a comeback he only got out of rehab in late 2004 i believe accroding to that cardplayer article
Gus wins the odd tournament hes a below average for a pro cash game player according to daniel negreanu giving him a 5 or something
apart from 3 WPT titles what has he got
layne has a WPT title a second and 5 WSOP bracelets(in 5 years at WSOP) 3 in no limit holdem and 1 in limit holdem
gus doesnt come close to those "consistent" results
boy i really sound like a real fanboy but i assure you im not i just to aspire to be as good as him one day

Hansen is clearly a better cash game player so i'm not even going there, but this is about NLH. Hansen has not played for as long as Flack, and has played in no where near as many WSOP tourneys. I'm not saying that Flack is not a great player, I just think that Hansen is better.

since 1999
5WSOP bracelets 4 in Holdem
1 WPT title and 2 seconds one second where he got his money in with 99 vs 22 and got outdrawn so more like 2 WPT titles it should be
im not being a fanboy here its just really impressive
so who can argue with those tournament results
not even Negreanu can knock those results
