Well, at least one of them wont be able to see him because the Calder trophy will be in the way..... AAAAAANNNNNDDDD...... I'll take that bet: Dustin Penner does not win the Stanley Cup this year. Yes?

current odds are about 4.2 to one...I will give you the benefit and bet Anaheim at 4-1 if you like...

$25 to win $100...???

That was the line before the series started. Anaheim is obviously a very heavy favourite. I'll give you 3-1. And it SHOULD be 2-1 based on your firm conviction that the rangers will play anaheim in the cup final.....

For me I don't understand how Brodeur shouldn't be the Hart trophy winner, I mean I know the stats and I Crosby/Luongo had KILLER years but for one of the best goalies ever to have a career year like this I think he's more than deserving. Sure his team plays a "defensive" style but he's still out there doing what he does best, and that is carry his team. If not Brodeur, Crosby would be the next for me, I just haven't seen anything out of Luongo that I didn't see in Florida (just a better team in front of him).

Calder is easy Malkin takes that one

Adams should go to Ruff I think, and I really thought Ted Nolan was going to slip into the top 3, guess not.
terex
Seriously don't get why Ruff gets so much love for Coach of the Year this season. His team proved that they were a force last year, until injuries decimated them. They returned, basically, the same team as last year. They performed to expectations. They are a solid team up and down. There was no surprises there.

The Canucks/Penguins both performed well above expectations. Particularly the Penguins. Tons of potential that was coached up, one of the biggest turnarounds ever in the NHL. This is a team that had all of 3-4 players that could be considered veteran leaders--Recchi, Gonchar, Thibault, and Roberts--yet, they were consistently excellent after January 1st. Therrien should run away with this award. Period.

Why weren't other trophy nominations like the Norris included in this poll?

There's a few answers this...

1) You can only do 3 questions per thread.
2) There's no Penguins up for any other trophy.
3) I didn't feel like making another thread with a poll yesterday...but I think I will now.

One thing for certain: they handed the Hart to Crosby on a silver platter by nominating him with Luongo and Brodeur. There are A) quite a few of the voters who wont vote fpr a goalie for MVP, and B ) by nominating two goalies, who are very close in status, that vote will split again. Therefore, Crosby will win this in a landslide.

DISCLAIMER TO ALL PENS FANS: The preceding statement is NOT insinuating that Crosby should not win it, or does not deserve it. I am merely expressing a factor that will affect the outcome of the voting.....

This proves my further theory of the agenda that the NHL has to promote and push the Penguins on the masses...They will do everything to ensure that Crosby is to be touted as the next Wayne Gretzky...In reality Crosby is a very good player , however he is not in that class yet....

Staal nominated for the Rookie of the year ahead of Anze Kopitar is just stupid...

Wait a second here, I'm pretty sure that the NHL doesn't "nominate" the players that can win the award. Taken from the nhl.com press release :

QUOTE
Voting for all awards concluded with the regular season. The Professional Hockey Writers' Association conducts balloting for the Hart, Norris, Selke, Calder and Lady Byng.

From my understanding, the writers get to vote for whomever they chose, and then the finalists that were announced on Monday are simply the top 3 vote-getters. So your argument gruven doesn't make sense to me, since obviously the voters did vote somewhat massively for Luongo and Brodeur, as they did end up in the top 3 vote-getters.

Makes no sense..If you look at the numbers...Kopitar way better than Staal...Penner equal stats to Staal...Wolski better numbers than Staal..

staal did play the PK for the pens, and led the league in short handed goals if i'm not mistaken. he is still only 18 too. i actually like kopitar more too, but you gotta give staal a little consideration for his +16 too which was easily the best amongst the top rookies, radulov had +19 but didnt play enough to be considered i think.

you can spin it anyway which way you like...Staal should not be a finalist for Calder...Thats all...

Yes, you're absolutely right. What I meant was simply that the way the nominations shook out, the award is already Crosby's. It was serge who started chirping about conspiracy theories and the NHL. Writers vote for the awards (Except for the Pearson Award).

just because gruven says the masses believe him..However from the TSN website:

For the first time since the inception of the NHL awards TV special in 1983, there are more than the traditional three finalists for a league trophy because there was a third-place tie between 2006 winner Miikka Kiprusoff of the Calgary Flames and Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers in Vezina balloting by the 30 league GMs.

the nominations are by management...

Yes, serge, that's because, unlike you, I don't have my head up my ***....... the PHWA (Professional Hockey Writers Association) votes for the Hart Trophy. Which is what we were talking about. Not the Vezina. Once again, you're an idiot. Good game. Nice Hand. Donkey.

No, I said that I was goaded into predicting on television that they would win in 5, but that I PERSONALLY believed they would win in 6.

I also said the Leafs wouldn't make the playoffs. Nice hand. Good call. Ooops, lost all your chips again serge?? awwwwwww.....

Kopitar to me did a lot more on a worse team then Staal did on a good team. Switch positions and I would like to see Jordan Staal's point totals. The only reason why he got the nod over Kopitar is Stall plays on the East coast and I believe most of the voters of this award probably never saw Kopitar except for a handful of times.

Kopitar did not start playing with Cammalleri and Frolov till the very end of the season compared to what many people think. He was put with almost every damn winger in LA's System. Brown was the most consistent of the bunch. He was even paired with Ratais Ivanans for at least 2-3 games. There was about a 20-30 game stretch where Kopitar carried the Kings team and without him they would be even worse and probably challenging Philadelphia in overall crap. Of course what could have hurt him was his injury which sidelined him for a good amount of time and it took him a while to get back into Game Action.
Zach6668
Does anyone think Kopitar's injury might have had something to do with it?

I'm the biggest Staal supporter next to Don Cherry, but I was even suprised to see him nominated. I mean, he had an INCREDIBLE season, both scoring-wise, and defensively, which I think was the key that got him in there. His PK play was superb, on a team which was not very good defensively, and his 7 SH goals did lead the league.

Anyways, it's a moot point because neither him or Kopitar would have a chance to win this award anyways. If it were my choice, I'd say Malkin > Staal = Stastny = Kopitar, at least based on the first season.

Belanger, you most likely do have a point about Western bias though, even though Stastny got in (probably due to the exposure from his scoring streak).

Well it's hard not to include the 2nd highest point scoring rookie in the league. Besides that though Most of Colorado's games occur in the Central Time Zone. Besides the games where they goto Vancouver, Anaheim, Los Angeles, and San Jose which is a total of 10 of 82 games start before 10 EST. Now this isn't counting games they may have played against Edmonton or Calgary on HNIC in Canada which would have been a Saturday night game at 10 EST. Stastny also has the whole name thing as well. It would be very hard pressed not include Statsny.

Just what I believe.
Zach6668
Yeah, I was agreeing with you.
digitalmonkey
Malkin, Crosby and Ruff were my choices.
