Alec Yells at his daughter.I can't believe this is news. I'm watching CNN Headline News, Fox Morning News, and The Today show and they all lead with this story. I think a great MAJORITY of people have had a new a-hole chewed by an angry parent. Who in this world grew up like the Brady Bunch? I'm an older person. When I was eleven years old they didn't have cell phones. Well, they did but they were huge and expensive. Maybe I can't relate. I can imagine that if I did have a phone and my father called me I'd BETTER answer it. Now lets sit back and see how many people call this abuse.

I still need to see the full body to judge.
But yea I agree with OP, I don't think it was that big of a deal. Yea he went a little overboard, but all parents do that. My parents have gone nuts on me. I'm a swim coach, and I've overdone it sometimes in yelling at kids. It happens all the time as long as he admitted he went overboard I have no problem with it.

He left a voicemail message. There's nothing to be paranoid about when you record your own offensive message intentionally.

Apparently his divorce with Kim Basinger was unbelievably ugly and involved and he had to fight for years to get visitation with his daughter and he's writing a book about all the legal red tape he had to deal with. I've always liked him but I'm guessing he's got a pretty bad temper

I've never liked him, but I can't believe people are on anyone's side but his. He pays for the little
cunt's cell phone, set time aside to talk to her, and she won't pick up. I HATE when people won't answer their fuc

That is actually almost word for word what the message to his daughter said. Good work.
My mom punched me in the face one time and then snarled,"What are you gonna do, just stand there and bleed?" We fought like to madman, but it's all love. Maybe we shouldn't judge the parenting till the parenting is over.

My mom once grabbed me by a chunk of my bangs (it was the 80s, I had bangs) while I was sitting next to her in the car, pulled my head down until I nearly hit my nose on the parking break and said, "If you don't shut up, I'm going to rip this hair out of your head." She used an eerily calm voice. I shut up.
I was being a totally annoying, whiny, ungrateful 13 year old and I completely deserved it. She probably should have just hauled off and smacked me.
What Alec Baldwin said sounded terrible, and we all strive as parents never to say anything that shocking to our kids, but many of us fail. Some context would have been nice as all I've heard about is the message itself. Kim should have deleted that message and then had her daughter sit down with dad and work this thing out. He must feel terrible after hearing it over and over again and realizing how mean it sounded.

Maybe. There are things that I have said to my 15 year old sister in law that are on the surface horrible, but I don't feel bad at all. Like the one time one of her dumbass boyfriends tried to get in my face- this after having tried to hide in my house when cops arrived, after neighbors called at 3 in the morning about kids out in front smoking weed, this little **** runs in my house while my wife, daughter and I are sleeping- I wake up to find 3 cops in my house. The little ****** came back 2 days later like nothing happened. I, of course, told him to get the **** out and yelled at her for even thinking this guy coming over was an option, he tried to get in my face about it , I tell him,"What, do you think you are special? You don't look like the guy she was with last night, you are one of many." He says,"That's wrong, dog." It sure is- but it is true none the less.
Incidentally, I cannot stand these teenagers these days. Did I mention that?

It just goes to show the little respect that kids nowadays have for their parents, especially kids that are fed from the silver spoon. I understand why Alec is upset, because its maddening to have set up a specific time to talk to someone and have them totally disregard it, even moreso if it happens repeatedly. It doesn't even have to be family for it to irk me somewhat. I don't think that he needed to go as far as calling her a pig, lol, thats a little over the top. Rude, summed it up rather nicely.
Is it just me or does anyone else suspect that this message was not entirely intended for his daughter. It almost sounded to me like he wanted it to get back to Kim and it was more directed towards Ms Basinger as opposed to the daughter. I don't know if him and his ex still talk at all, but I would venture to guess that they don't. This message sounded like an attempt to incite a confrontation with his ex more than anything. I will go as far as to say if the daughter heard the message, its going to stick with her for a long time, unless Alec frequently referred to her as a rude little pig.
I think that Alec is primarily upset with his ex, (without knowing the intimate details), because she allows this little girl to disrespect him. She may even encourage the behavior. It would be a very, very frustrating to spend time with your daughter in little chunks of their life. Try to establish a father-daughter bond in that time, think that you have established that bond and there is mutual respect. Only to have it wiped away whenever this child goes back to the mother. Pure speculation, but I honestly believe that Ms Basinger is pushing some buttons and using the daughter as a pawn. If that is the case, then its really a sad, sad story.

I am not going to defend any of the participants but one thing is certain, there are some serious control issues in that family dynamic. Crap like this will continue until the adults start acting like adults.
And com'on... what kid wants to talk to any adult on the phone? I am sure everyone here has ditched a phone call from a parent or grandparent. When a parent acts like Alec the kids are not going to want to talk to him. He way overreacted.

2) Why is this a news story at all? I hate American media. This was basically the top story for several 24 hour news networks.

Well, Stephen has apparently meshed skateboarding and Christ, which is nice, but he's a tad loony. Billy is still married to the Wilson Philips chick, happily by all accounts, and he shows good taste by not hooking up with the fat one, so he gets a point there. Daniel is just a drug addict, and the cool kind- celebrity drug addict who is not broke by any means but will still steal a buddies car, because that is what drug addicts do. You gotta admire that. Friend-"Dude, you got millions, why would you steal my Le Baron?" Daniel-"My bad, man, just trying to live the life the way it should be. I will buy you another. You got any smack?" I have been a big fan of that family for a long time. What a body of work. I wish they had a transgender like Alexis Arquette, then it would be complete. I ma sure the Baldwins realize they are missing out on that gravy train.

I'm thirty six years old and my father passed away a couple of years ago from cancer. I recall a time when I was living on my own for a couple of years. I was twenty one or twenty two and enjoying the party life. I had the stupid Idea of putting annoying obnoxious messages on my answering machine.
You know the standard
"hello?...What?....Speak up...What?.... do you speak English?....I SAID SPEAK UP!!!...I CAN'T F***ING HEAR YOU!!!.....All the yelling ain't gonna change the fact the I'm not here...so leave a message...CHUMP!!!"
I had the thing on a month or so when and when I would get home my friends thought it was funny as they would usually be laughing as they recorded their message. It really threw the telemarketers for a loop. However one day I get home and see the little flashing light on my machine(this was the early 90's folks..no voice mail..no cell phones...it was a tape recorder..nothing digital) and I eagerly played my message. Surprise, it was My Father. I usually called my parents they never called me unless it was an emergency.
This is what I heard. LOOOOOONG PAUSE......

LOOONG PAUSE.....
Chang your F***ing message.....C*** SUCKER!!!!"

alec baldwin is just so great as an actor, i can't help but laugh when listening to this. he builds into phrases so nicely, such a great voice. the content, if you've been close to a divorce, is totally standard imo, and if you consider the fact that the daughter of alec baldwin and kim basinger is probably 752067x more mature than the average 12-year-old, it's pretty tame.

This is a rather stilted observation. So you think that an adult who lives hundreds of miles away from his parents should be getting calls from them constantly? This is was 1994. No cell phones. No free minutes. People actually went long periods of time between talking to each other on the phone if they didn't live in the same city. Oh how a miss those days. No text messaging. No Voice mails. No Using your phone to be in constant contact with EVERYBODY on earth. You probably had a pager and that was it. No guy. I know my parents loved me. My father just didn't like assholes or smart asses. Unfortunately this has become a virtuous trait in todays society.

So you thought it would be funny to make your recording, and because your father called you an *******, you agree with him?
Cell phones were around in 1994. There is a big difference between a parent calling their son/daughter once or twice a week, and being in constant contact with "EVERYBODY on earth."

Cellphones were around. I have one in my 1993 Lexus. It was an add on, and cost roughly 2,000 dollars, and weighs 4 pounds. It frightens me.
Back then, it was all pagers. His father didn't overreact, the ****ing grandfather just died. Taken in context, no big deal, and I bet they laugh about it now.
