For those of you that havent been watching the Rangers games, one of the major reasons the Rangers are playing as well as they are is because of Sean Avery...He is the ultimate playoff agitator...Guys like Linseman(the rat) and Esa Tikkanen come to mind ...Yesterday he even goated Kovalchuk into dropping his gloves...The Thrashers are spending too much time trying to get to Avery and have lost their concentration..

Not only that he is also chipping in offensively as well....

The Rangers are looking amazing right now with their big guns Jagr,Shanahan,Nylander ..Their goalie is playing amazing and then they have a guy like Avery...This team can get by any team in the East..

1-0 Thrashers.

maybe they got the message.

I agree for the most part. They've looked very impressive and Avery is a big reason for it. He's a great enforcer for any team and is a big impact player. I wasn't a big fan of him though when I saw him cover his face from one of Tucker's hits to try to draw the penalty. There's no difference between what he did and diving. Atleast Tucker was willing to drop the gloves over it.

It's amazing, just from the statistics alone, how the acquisition of Avery turned around the Rangers. Everybody thought that they were out of the playoffs a while back. But with Avery playing well as well as the rest of the team stepping up, they managed to nose their way into the playoffs and have just swept Atlanta (with one blowout game of 7-0).

Avery was exactly what the rangers needed. His sort of aggression, fierceness, and somewhat out of control game was a perfect addition to a team that needed a jolt of lightning earlier in the season. And even though it was clear that Atlanta had warned the team against getting into confrontations with Avery, it was clear by the third and fourth game that he was really getting to them (well, I guess the 7-0 lead in the third game didn't help things for them either).

However, I think that the success that the Rangers have experienced in the playoffs is for the most part due to Jagr. He is playing better than he has for the entire season. He is at the heart of the Rangers offense. Nearly every opportunity that they've had has either by Jagr or came from Jagr drawing and distracting the defense, or Jagr making amazing passes. Along with Jagy, Nylander too is playing some of the best hockey of his life (and even earned a hat trick yesterday).

The Rangers will have a lot of momentum going into the second round and are a formidable opponent for any team in the conference.

Like, not that I need to tell you this, but you usually see coincidental minors when a diving penalty is called. Avery was called for a dive with no other penalty on the play against the Blues this year, and it was completely blatant. A blues player nudged him and after a second or two he jerked his entire body and flopped over.

I don't have much respect for the guy, but there's a reason I took him in the playoff pool.

The night Jaromir Jagr almost killed Sean Avery.

that was entertaining. Sean Avery is the guy I least liked giving up in that trade, btw. I think he might even turn out to be a 50 point producer, if you're lucky.

very nice.
We know the Rangers took out the Thrashers but the real test will be the 2nd round for them. Looks like it will be either Buffalo or Ottawa, then we will see how the Rangers really look.

To be honest this thread has no Mustangs angle or fantasy hockey angle...The guy is amazing and the Kings made a huge mistake to give him up...Not only is he putting up decent offensive numbers, his other assets are invaluable...As much as I love Darcy Tucker, this guys is even better and he knows exactly what he has to do to piss off the opposition.

Here is the quote of the day from Tsn:

"I'm going to hurt them, I'm going to hit them, I'm going to be in their face as much as I can."

- Rangers forward Sean Avery on his game plan for the Buffalo Sabres.

The little "skilled" Sabres better watch out.

Sean Avery, meet Dainus Zubrus. Dainus Zubrus, meet....THUD.

You talk like you think the Sabres are a bunch of little pussies that can't take a hit or dish one out, we'll talk tomorrow about the big bad Rangers and their big bad 4 goal defecit.

Oh, and that's the quote of MONday. Just saying.

Sean Avery can take a hit from anyone...however his role is to agitate the stars like Briere,Vanek,Drury and Afinogenov and get under their skin...He even got Kovalchuk to drop the gloves...The man is great....

By the way some Avery facts..

-has a stanley cup ring from his rookie year in Detroit

-born in Pickering, Ontario(home of the AHL mustangs)

-During the 2005 preseason Denis Gauthier of the Phoenix Coyotes bodychecked Kings forward Jeremy Roenick in a preseason game, giving Roenick a concussion. Avery's response was "I think it was typical of most French guys in our league with a visor on, running around and playing tough and not back anything up
lets not forget Briere seems to be that type of player(french)...not agreeing, just saying.

- and of course THIS

I like Avery, I really do, but all this blustering is just lame. You don't get the hardest working team in hockey off their gameplan with words, and at the end of the day, that's all this is.

You are going to compare Briere to Denis Gauthier. You have to be kidding. Briere throws his weight around a lot (SW). He speaks by scoring goals and creating plays not by throwing hits. Check the stats, 5 playoff games and 1 Hit thrown. I can't see Briere running Nylander over anytime soon.

The only thing you got going for you is that you are from Charlottetown, where Rick Vaive grew up...

Rick was a great player when he played hockey. That is the only positive statement you will ever hear me utter about Rick Vaive.

Here's a little fact of life Serge, being a star athlete doesn't make you a good or worthwhile person.

O.J. was found NOT GUILTY....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...even I couldn't finish that one with a straight face.

Avery is just trying to get an early start on his job; get under the skin of the more talented Sabres players. If the Sabres are smart (and they will get help from Ruff) they will just ignore whatever Avery says and the pushing and shoving that he will be doing after the whistle.

Avery is an average player who will only influence the outcome of this series if Buffalo lets him.

AJS will be happy.... I just went on TV and picked the Sabres in 5.... (Although I was slightly goaded into it!!). I believe Sean Avery will be a huge factor.... in a negative way. If the Sabres can stay disciplined, Avery will take stupid penalties, and the Rangers will implode. Realistically, I believe the Sabres will win in 6 or 7, but it made for better TV to say they'd win in 5..... biggrin.gif
Sidenote: most boring guy ever? Rick Dudley....

But now you can tape OTR and taunt me later when my prediction fails..... LOL
