I am not sure why the Canadian national anthem is played before the game...Is this only a Buffalo thing because of the proximity to Canada?

Before most players were Canadian and it made sense, but now why not play the Russian national anthem, or the Swedish National Anthem.?/

I dont disagree with it, but just wondering...

The American National Anthem is played in Canadian cities.

I'd like to see NO anthems played.

Yes, but do they play the American anthem when two Canadian based teams are playing?

When two US teams play, American Anthem only....
When two Canadian teams play, Canadian Anthem only...

Buffalo Sabres are the lone exception, and they do it because a percentage of their fans hail from the Niagara Penninsula....

From ESPN:
"12 percent of Buffalo's season-ticket holders are from Canada"

They obviously have a huge Canadian following watching and listening on TV and radio as well.
I think it is a classy thing for the Sabres to do.
