I'm tired of this argument.... argue whether or not the shootout should be included, argue whether or not to give 3 points, or whatever, but DON'T use a stat that's missing information.... EXAMPLE: If you're a good shootout team, then you would have played late in a game for the tie, not the win, knowing you can do well in a shootout. So giving fans like the Leafs cause to believe they've been screwed by using that stat is bullshit. Teams would have played differently without a shootout as a possibility.
Sorry for the rant, I should have put it under 'pet peeves'.. but you brought it up....

its a stupid gimmick that is bad for hockey....Hockey is the only sport that changes its rules in the regular season..

How about in baseball if they brought the pitcher in 10 feet in extra innings...Or said every flyball to the outfield isa hit

In basketball in OT , why dont they just take freethrows

and in football the kickers can decide the game with field goals..

What do you propose they do then? We can't have unlimited overtime as there would be too many marathon games. Do we just end the game after the 5 minute over time and make it boring again as teams play not to lose?

It worked for 80 years and hockey was never boring when I grew up in the 80s...

The reason hockey got boring is the talent pool got watered down due to expansion...

Go back to 21 teams, take hockey away from the markets that cant support it...

Then it wont be boring....

I'm not saying hockey before the shoot out was boring, I was saying that the overtime was as both teams usually played not to lose. Maybe they could do 10 minutes of 5 on 5 and then a final 10 minutes of 4 on 4.

I have the same problem with people saying "If that goal in the second period wasn't waved off, they would have gone to OT". NO. If that goal was allowed, both teams may have played differently due to the change in the score.

you forgot soccer serge. THE most popular sport in the world, they go to a shootout. I would rather see some 3 on 3 hockey in OT. Why not, 4 on 4 doesn't make more sense; the game is completly different, let's open it up even more and see some real talent, not a crapshoot of a shootout, or at least go to 5 shooters. As for the playoffs, stick to 5 on 5 and don't tamper witht he fabric of the sport. This means calling the penalties. Had they called the game the same way in OT as in regulation that Vancouver game would have ended way sooner. In the NFL they call the penalties down to the last second, by not calling them they influence the game. 12 penalties in the first 3 periods and 3 in the last 4. I watched the game and they let alot of them go in OT.
