I was almost hoping that we'd blow that 9-0 bottom of the 9th lead, just so I could have one more bit to harp about all the time, because Kelly's drop/inability to retrieve the ball from his own ****ing glove like ever has run out of steam.

Yeah...it's unfortunate that we need 4-run leads for me to feel at all comfortable that we'll win games late.

I actually feel comfortable with any lead but a 1-run lead (Gonzo has been sick)....we seem to be pretty good in every situation but those....whatever, had very high expectations this year, and it has been the most frustrating season since I've been a fan....think that I might boycott going to anymore games this year especially with all the work the DOT is doing on 75/85

Mike Hampton scheduled to make his first start in 35 months today....let's hope he doesn't pull something on the cab ride to the ballpark. I really don't believe that this is going to happen, and if it does the world has to be coming to an end....

I'm really excited to see this. I'm predicting him to pitch a perfect 2/3 of an inning before having a stroke in mid-wind up.

lol yeah no doubt.......hopefully he can actually contribute though

would be nice to win this series

Hampton into the 5th. It's not on TV here, so I don't actually believe it yet, though.

lol he actually did make it to the 5th, left the bases loaded, and now we are down 10-9........after being up 9-3.........anyones game now

And we blow a 9 run lead. GG Braves, it was nice to have good teams for half of my life, but it's time to return to mediocrity.

You don't have to tell us....that is a fact that has def been extremely noticeable lately. First time the Braves have scored 9 runs in an inning and lost since 1912, then blow a 5-0 lead yesterday. Absolutely pathetic.

Most infuriating weekend of scoreboard watching ever. Oh good, the Braves are up big on the Phillies. Then I check the final score later and somehow the Phillies have come back and won.

Time for the Braves to admit defeat for this season and sell off Texieria and whoever else before the trade deadline.

Done, but I wonder if tossing in Will Ohman and someone like Reyes or Morton could have netted us a starter like Joe Saunders or maybe even Ervin Santana.

no way the Angels were gonna part with a starter of that caliber at this point in the year......they're pushing for the title

I know they wouldn't break up that rotation, but I have to believe they could have gotten better than a AA reliever. If this was the best deal Wren could swing with 6 teams interested, then he blew it.

We essentially gave up Tex for Kotchman and a nobody (25 yo relief pitcher)...I hope this was the best we could get. I personally don't like the deal at all. At least give me a starter after Huddy going down for prolly a year....I love this team so much, but I hate them at the same time...
CobaltBlue
*sigh*

I was looking over the lineup and I feel surprisingly optimistic that we're a young, promising team now. We just have to stop making these dumb little mistakes.

Also, what a garbage call at home plate early in the game. He was so clearly out.

It's more than they would have received if they let Tex go to free agency, and since Scott Boras is his agent that would have been a certainty. Yes, the Braves would have received two first round picks for letting Tex go to free agency, but there is absolutely no guarantee that they would come away with someone that has the talent that Kotchman has.

Right, but with Tex such a big piece for a team making a run, then I would hope the Braves could have swung a better deal. At least Wren could have waited 24 hours for a better offer or made a counter with a little more substance then a downgrade at 1B and a prospect.

I understand that this is better than we get with 2 draft picks. My point is, is it the best offer we had? If it was then I am fine with it, I just have a hard time believing we couldn't get better...

Cobalt is right that was a terrible call early in the game....I am so glad we get Campillo back for league min...could be the steal of the year...

From watching the telecast, they interviewed Wren. He was saying that they proposed a very healthy offer to Tex in spring training which was turned down by him and his agent (obv).

Aside from Franc's assist early (which the ump blew), the defense was freaking ugly tonight.

Also, I am starting to disbelieve the subtitle to this thread. =(

Unless the Angels win the W.S. then I don't see how this is a good trade for the Halos.

Surely this means that either Frankie Rodriguez, John Lackey, or M. Tex won't be resigned-or maybe 2 of them won't be resigned. They obv will keep Lackey.

Don't know much about M Tex's defense, is it as good as Kotch's-if you haven't seen it ur gonna like it.

Bottom line...I think maybe I probably might be indifferent about this trade at the onset.
CobaltBlue
Tex's defense was pretty good.

In other news, I just noticed that Corky Miler is a lifetime .180 hitter...that's terrible. He's hitting .096 this year in 25 games. Seriously..playing this Sammons kid until McCann gets back seems worth the gamble.

Tex might be the best defensive 1B in the league...has won at least one (and maybe 2 gold gloves). He was a 3B in college at Tech.

Corky Miller might be the worst player in the league. I don't see why you wouldn't give Clint a chance while McCann is out. He was a stud in high school at Parkview. Him and Francoeur on the same team, they were incredible!

downgrade on offense only

Tex is a very good defensive 1B, but Kotchman has a better glove and will probably win his share of gold gloves

Absolutely no way you can say Kotch is better than Tex defensively. Tex is the best defensive 1B I have seen besides maybe D Lee...they are def comparable, not better imho...

Huddy out for at least a year with torn UCL needing Tommy John. When I envisioned worst case scenario at the start of the season, it was nothing near this bad...have never seen more injuries/bad luck than this team has had. Wowowow.....have to get a frontline starter via free agency/trade for next season now.

Didn't they say that he's going to try to play through it for the rest of the season? That seems a little crazy...but I guess if it's torn and needs to be replaced anyway, it won't kill him to tear it more. =P

Also, I've considered spontaneously going to a game the past few days since I just moved to Atlanta. In hindsight, I'm rather glad I have not. My list of most disliked NL teams: Cardinals, Phillies, Mets. Obviously, I am not happy about this series.

I have just been giving my tickets away for most of the games lately. It really is painful to watch this team right now with the way we're playing. Boyer can't get an out to save his life.

Here is the link to the article in the AJC on Huddy...

With Liberty Media supposedly opening up the checkbook wider and the big salaries coming off the books from this year (Hampton, Tex, possibly Glavine and Smoltz), I would think that the Braves have already decided to make a run at a big starter via FA.

Yeah, I'm actually renting an apartment in Vinings. I really like the area. Got here last week and should be here for at least a year. I grew up in Chattanooga and spent a lot of time in Auburn, so I've been around the region a lot. I'm not sure I'm going to like dealing with the traffic. Fiancee will be here in a week.

Traffic is really bad around here...hopefully you don't get caught by a train....It's a nice place though, and you're near both highways...

I've mostly been coming through Vinings when coming from south on 285 and then taking the Cumberland Mall exit when coming from north. I'm right around where Paces Mill runs into Northside Parkway.

Of course when we get good news worse news seems to follow.

Skip and Pete were what we watched the Braves for when we were so bad before the run. They were about the only duo that could make it fun to watch such a bad team. I and everyone else will sorely miss Skip doing Braves games. The last few years I have muted the TV just to listen to Skip and Pete on the radio when they did the games. RIP Skip...I'm glad you're in a better place now.

On the way to work Monday evening, I was able to listen to the final few minutes of a Skip Caray tribute on 750am (even though I’m in Louisiana). I must admit I choked back a few tears.

I remember the Braves’ bad years in the late 70’s and 80’s. Even in the dismal days of late summer, when the team had no hope of contention, I‘d watch the game and enjoy Skip’s commentary – witty, sarcastic, and always entertaining.

Whenever I hear Skip’s name, his call of the 1992 NLCS rings through my head… “BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN!”

I was lucky enough to be at that game. It was without a doubt the most exciting moment in sports that I will ever witness live.

For those who don’t remember that game 7, the Braves were down 2-1, 2 outs, with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. Francisco Cabrera was at the plate (for his 11th at-bat of the season), with Sid Bream (possibly the slowest runner in MLB) on second. Cabrera got a hit to left field, and Bream narrowly beat the throw by the Pirates left fielder Barry somebody ( smile.gif )

Here’s a recap of that game: Game 7 1992 NLCS

To hear Skip’s call from that game go to the link on this page:Skip Caray WGST Page

I watched the game from the upper level in left field. I was also an amateur photographer, and witnessed the final play through my camera lens. Of course that was before we all had digital cameras, so I had to wait a couple of days to see if the shots were any good.

Here are a couple of pictures that I had framed:

Skip: "What Tension. The runners lead. A lot of room in right center. If he hits one there, we can dance in the streets. The 2-1...Swung, line drive, left field! One run is in! Here comes Bream! Here’s the throw to the plate! He is...SAFE! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN! Braves win!..."

"...They may have to hospitalize Sid Bream. He’s down at the bottom of a huge pile at the plate! They help him to his feet. Frank Cabrera got the game-winner! The Atlanta Braves are National League Champions again! This crowd has gone berserk!"

I remember using a magnifying glass to study every fan in each of the photos. Ted, Jane, Jimmy, and Rosalyn are in the owners box. The anticipation and reaction of the fans is priceless. Grown men hugging, etc...

The place went nuts for what seemed like forever. And yes, Skip, we danced in the streets that night.

Great times.

Anyone think Atlanta can put together a deal for Peavy without giving up too much (Hanson, Heyward, Escobar, etc)?
ColdSpaghetti
They are probably going to have to deal either Hanson along with Jordan Schafer and either Yunel Escobar or Kelly Johnson to get Peavy but the way the Braves are talking they don't want to give up prospects. Only time will tell but I doubt they are going to get him for much less. If the Braves don't get a trade in and wait for free agency they will have to shell out alot to get a solid veteran arm in there IMO. But stranger things have happened so we will see.

You mean like the Twins giving up Santana for a deal centered around Phil Humber?

I could see that happening here, if SD is really set on cutting payroll. I think Wren's initial offer should be somewhere along the lines of Kris Medlen, Cole Rohrbough, Charlie Morton, and either Schafer or Gorkys. To me, Hanson, Jason Heyward, and Yunel are untouchable.

There's also Tyler Flowers, who looks good but is blocked by McCann.

Or, if the plan is to acquire a corner OFer also, why not build a package around Francoeur, move KJ to RF, and give Prado a chance to play 2B?
