I've been playing a lot of the old NES/SNES titles recently and the one thing I've noticed is that with companies focusing on the latest and greatest graphics, gameplay has become so much easier over the years. Who do you think is the hardest video game boss of any platform?
My pick goes to to Mike Tyson (or Mr. Dream depending on when you got the game) of the NES Punch Out.

This guy is just....hard.

He isn't that hard, everything in that game is patterns and once you figure his out you can beat him without getting hit once.

Alot of people are gonna say you're just being cool. But you're absolutely right. I mean you can only get hit like 3 times and you lose. So you have to get where you can beat him without getting hit. Still one of the funnest games ever though.

Don't get me wrong, you have to put in a lot of time to learn the patterns but once you have it down he is ridiculously easy. Any boss with a more reactive AI, not a set pattern, will always be tougher than Tyson.

How about Jaquio from Ninja Gaiden 1? Anyone remember this nightmare?

I guess you can argue that he too has a pattern so he isn't that hard. But back in the day we didn't have "save states" and if you died to this guy while trying to figure out the pattern, you were sent back all the way to 6-1 and had to do everything over again. Almost broke quite a few controllers on this one

Ruby was pretty hard since he would take away two of your characters right off the bat (unless you knew the trick). Also, his having a million hit points and countering every KOTR with an ultima that destroyed your party didn't help either.

Nah, he was easy if you had the lazy shell for Princess. It basically made her immortal. Also, that's probably not your game in the picture, but whoever is fighting him should be way more leveled up to expect to have a chance. HP's should be in the 200's.

Ozma was optional as well, unless you wanted to collect all the cards... and I did. Admittedly I never beat Ozma because I wasn't willing to spend the time on it. Back in my FF7 days (read: high school), I was able to beat Ruby with the trick LLY mentioned and I leveled enough to beat Emerald without using any magic.
