Full Version: Hardest Video Game Boss Ever?

I've been playing a lot of the old NES/SNES titles recently and the one thing I've noticed is that with companies focusing on the latest and greatest graphics, gameplay has become so much easier over the years. Who do you think is the hardest video game boss of any platform?

My pick goes to to Mike Tyson (or Mr. Dream depending on when you got the game) of the NES Punch Out.

This guy is just....hard.

He isn't that hard, everything in that game is patterns and once you figure his out you can beat him without getting hit once.

when i read the title "Mike Tyson" was immediately who i thought of.

damn he was hard.

This mother fucker with the game set to hard was way tougher then Mike Tyson.

Alot of people are gonna say you're just being cool. But you're absolutely right. I mean you can only get hit like 3 times and you lose. So you have to get where you can beat him without getting hit. Still one of the funnest games ever though.

You're crazy, Bison was one of the easier people to beat in that game.
zimmer4141
RPG Bosses I'd say Kefka from Final Fantasy III in the final battle.
Dirtydutch
More recently, Dead to Rights had some tough bosses.

And The Getaway was just tough in general.
strategy
How about Ozma from FFIX? Dude just randomly takes turns completely out of sequence and does percentage-based attacks. Even if you level up ridiculously, you're still a dog to beat him.

I'm pretty sure Judge Doom was considered quite difficult. The game was badly difficult enough that I never made it that far.

Don't get me wrong, you have to put in a lot of time to learn the patterns but once you have it down he is ridiculously easy. Any boss with a more reactive AI, not a set pattern, will always be tougher than Tyson.
asytnik
How about Jaquio from Ninja Gaiden 1? Anyone remember this nightmare?

I guess you can argue that he too has a pattern so he isn't that hard. But back in the day we didn't have "save states" and if you died to this guy while trying to figure out the pattern, you were sent back all the way to 6-1 and had to do everything over again. Almost broke quite a few controllers on this one wink.gif

Stop playing games on easy. In the turbo edition and on hard he was insane.

Ok had a genesis, no turbo edition.

Mike Tyson hands down!!!

Easiest goes to Bowser in Super Mario World (SNES)

EDIT: Campaigner in Turok (N64) was very hard as well.

FYP - Actually I probably haven't played EVERY one of them, but every mario i've played bowser was easy smile.gif Has it gotten any tougher the last 1-2 Marios?

Thanks for bringing back the nightmare that was Ninja Gaiden. They were all hard but you are right.
Shimmering Wang
The Fat Cat from Chip & Dale.

Just kidding, he was a joke.

Ozma was pretty tough, Strat, but not as tough as Emerald Weapon or Ruby Weapon. I don't know if they count, though, because they're optional.

Ruby was pretty hard since he would take away two of your characters right off the bat (unless you knew the trick). Also, his having a million hit points and countering every KOTR with an ultima that destroyed your party didn't help either.

Nah, he was easy if you had the lazy shell for Princess. It basically made her immortal. Also, that's probably not your game in the picture, but whoever is fighting him should be way more leveled up to expect to have a chance. HP's should be in the 200's.

I agree they were all pretty easy. I've just beat Super Mario World so many times that if I die against bowser I'm ashamed of myself.

I spent like a month of the summer of 1989 trying to beat the last level of Contra. To this day I have no idea whether I ever actually finished the game without cheating. Sadly, probably not.
SBriand
I still have yet to beat FF7. Sephiroth kicks my ass evertime. I have played through it to him 3 times and cannot beat him. I still need to go back on my last save and contiue breeding chocobo's and get Knights of the Round summon. /gay

Ruby was really easy if you prepared for him. Something about using Bahamut Zero would stun him.

Same here, though it's more because of my deleted end game save story.

Seph did, however, kick my ass in Kingdom Hearts.

up up, down down, left right, left right, ba,select start

and tyson was easy if you knew how to dodge but the first couple of times you are like this guy is impossible.
Suited_Up
This isn't a boss... But one of the hardest games I've seen.... Dungeon Master

A friend of mine owned this game, and could never beat it, it's ridiculously hard. Every time you think you're almost done, hear some drastic music change, it still doesn't end.
pokerinc
master blaster/blaster master whatever....that game was sick hard, as was the tmnt game.

Tyson was easy, he signals his patterns, learn them. Nick or Rick Bruiser were tougher on SNES punch out.

Bison hard as hell.
ROGUE06
How bout Mother Brain from the original Metroid on NES. That game was such a b1tch with all the different save points with their insanely long gay codes.

Ozma was optional as well, unless you wanted to collect all the cards... and I did. Admittedly I never beat Ozma because I wasn't willing to spend the time on it. Back in my FF7 days (read: high school), I was able to beat Ruby with the trick LLY mentioned and I leveled enough to beat Emerald without using any magic.

I thought Nintendo once had a game where the BIG BOSS was impossible to beat. I may be mistaking but was it Commando or something like that.

I found the guy before Tyson harder to beat than Tyson in Mike Tyson's punch out. Can't remember his name "Super something?" Even the Bull charge was tougher.

Goldeneye was the best FPS ever put out on a console, AINEC.

Personally I liked playing with only pistols and one shot kills, no random spraying and explosion deaths.

I didn't care for perfect dark, they went too high tech. It was like Turok 3 ruining the Turok series.

The campaigner mode in Aliens vs Predator for the PC (Back in 98 or 99) was extremely tough as well. Not only was it tough but it was one of the scariest games I've ever played.

I probably don't play enough different games to know for sure but the final dude in Halo 2 on Legendary mode is sick.
