What is there to do?

What is a way for an underage player (17years old) to become better? I have already read HoH1 and am partially through HoH2. I've read SSH1. I do have aspirations to turn pro at some point (Not now, go to college, get degree, etc etc), but right now I am wondering what is there for me to do to make myself a better player?

I do have a group of friends that I play with maybe once every few weeks for about $10 (tournaments/multiple) From these I am up about $300 on the year so far, but I feel my play has been so-so. Sometimes I make what I think are ridiculous plays, and other times I make plays that I know are wrong, but I want to be the "hero." I know it seems easy to correct this, but since I am underage I cannot play online, and since parents are extremely adamant about not gambling/poker I have very little time to play poker as it is. I know it is not the best form to lie to parents but I'm not sure how else to improve/try to improve.

So the main question that I am asking is what can I do to make myself better seeing as I am underage and cannot deposit online? Any help would be appreciated.

This probably makes little to no sense, but not sleeping does get to people after awhile. I think I posted this in the proper forum?

not much you can do (legally). keep reading books and start getting involved in the forums. post hands from your home games that you have questions about and discuss other people's hands to give/get insite. there's a lot of great players in this forum so learn from them. then, when you turn 18, find an indian casino and go play when you can.

times like this are about proving to yourself how bad you really want it. a big part of poker is patience and discipline, and this could be a good lesson for you right now, especially given the things you say about your game. just wait it out, do what you can, save a little money so that you can have a good bankroll when you get started. and when you turn of age you'll be ready to rock the house.

Become friends with somebody with a visa and then pay them cash and ask them to use their visa to deposit. Playing online while underage has helped me become a lot better. If I couldn't play online when I was 17 I'd b playing 10 and 20 dollar sit and go's now. Learn while you're young especially since you're going to go pro. I also said I was going to get a degree and stuff but now I'm changing my mind. I'm taking "a year off" after this semster (it's my first year in university) and am playing pro and travelling. I don't know what the chances of me coming bac would be. I just have no motivation to learn the stuff they teach me. I don't want to be an idiot though so I'm just going to read things that interest me at my own pace and not gonna b rushed. I think you must know someone with a visa who'd help you out. It was easy for me because my brother was over 18 when I was 16 so I started paying online then. If you want to get good fast, it'd be better to start playing now.

Also, analyze your sessions and stuff. And...read Mike Caro's book of tells as right now you play mostly live. Keep posting, browsing the net...and here is the biggest tip of all...if you do find someone with a visa...www.cardrunners.com....it's expensive but it's well worth it...the info is golden.

Hello ^;^ I'M underage also..its so annoying...Unlike you..I play online poker, I'M down $6,000 which is about £3,000 in since i started playing at 15..I'm now 17 and so cant wait to turn 18 cose then i can play LIVE games YES!!!!! I play on prima poker network, I play on poker stars, If i told you my screen name then i'd get caught lol...I play Mostly NLHE cash games $2/4..Played $10/$20 with minimum $200 buy inn last night on prima poker and i hit n run for the $30 blinds lol hehe....Im Up and Down the levels like mad..like from $1/2 to $2/4 to $3/6 to $5/10 to $10/20 NLHE games.

When i turn 18 i want 2 play LIVE tournaments tho! ^;^

1. Online poker is brutal. Everyone becomes addicted. Enjoy Junior/Senior year of HS, only so many years to be young and have fun.

2. Get a part time job. Start saving up money for when you can play

Playing online is better for learning. You get a better understanding for the game online. You can also play more hands, and the rake is lower.

But you get to shoot the dealer in a live game if your running bad.

There's a Lancaster Uni poker society. It's not huge, but we play a £10 rebuy on a Monday, usually about an £800 prizepool and 20 players. Top 4 paid normally. We always have a cash game running on the side as well as people get knocked out.

We also have weekly trips to Blackpool casino and to a private golf club where we play tourneys and cash games.

They can get kinda crazy - at one point there was a pot in a £1/£2 game where there were so many straddles it was £1/£2/£4/£8/£16/£32. It became simply an ego contest. The button was the £32 blind.

That has only happened once though.
