Whether the Habs make the playoffs or not this season I'm very happy with the quality of young (under 25) players they have.

Chipchura, Kyle 20
Grabovski, Mikhail 22
Milroy, Duncan 23
Kostitsyn, Andrei 21
Lapierre, Maxim 21
Plekanec, Tomas 23
Perezhogin, Alexander 22
Higgins, Christopher 23
Latendresse, Guillaume 19
Kostitsyn, Sergei 20
Maxwell, Ben 18
Mikus, Juraj 20

Goaltending also looks good with...

Halak, Jaroslav 21
Price, Carey 19

I'm hoping the Habs can lock up Markov and hopefully Souray too. I'd also like to see them draft a nice blue chip d-prospect to go along with...

Komisarek, Michael 24
Gorges, Josh 21
Fischer, David 19
Emelin, Alexei 20
Carle, Mathieu 19

The Habs are following the route recently traveled by the Sabres by developing young quality players within their system. In the new Cap era this is a must.

My bro-in-law who lives in Montreal is convinced Souray is gone. Briere would look good in a Habs uniform.

Briere is Philly's to lose at this point, methinks. The only way he doesn't go there is if the Sabres pull off a miracle or decide not to resign Drury (which would be a huuuuuuuuge mistake).

Didn't you just say you were going to smarten up new serge, these post are detrimental to your new image.

I really wish we would of gotten rid of Sourray at the trade deadline, beside his sick slap shot he really blows on defence, cause alot of goals and make the highlight reel for all the wrong reasons. We could of gotten a lot of value for him and now we might loose him as UFA. His daughter live in LA where he would like to move closer to if possible but he is one of our leader and veterens and I believe when he says he would like to stay. But with all the pressure in Mtl and the big offers he could get this summer I think there is a good changes he just leaves. Markov is a must sign,on of the most underated defensemen in the league.

Our youth is really stepping it up at this point and its very refressing. We're going to let go alot of our UFA this summer and make more room for them. Komisarek will be the next captain of the Habs, it would be nice to see him with an A next season.

Souray=McCabe

I think both players are defensively challenged and are not the smoothest with stick handling in the defensive zone. On the other side of the ice they have the ability to move in with the puck and blast it by any goalie in the league. PP specialists.

Roger Lerioux I think thats the spelling on the Fan590 brought up a good point about McCabe and his huge contract, if he continues to be a liabilty defensively switch him to the forward position. I think he can be a real gritty winger, cause havoc in front of the net, and have a sizzling shot on odd man rushes. Remember Clark was a defenseman throughout his junior career than moved up and became a solid winger.

Imagine Souray and McCabe as wingers I think both can do it.

Very interesting...As bad as Mccabe is defensively I dont think he is as bad as people think he is...It would be interesting to try though..Play him as 2nd or 3 line winger and put him on the point on the PP....

I still think Kaberle and Mccabe on the point is a deadly combo

i've heard this argument for Sourray also, put him up front. Sourray isn't nearly as mobile as McCabe, he's slower and isn't a very good at puck handling. In their defence tho they do spend alot of time on the ice so they will be there for alot of goal and mistakes are bound to happen with that much ice time.

And serge, you couldn't be more disrespectful twoards my nationality right now, would you post about pissing on an american flag, twice, well you might but it's out of line. I'd prefer it if you keep personal attacks out of this forum.

It is a lot of money but Markov is Montreal's best all-around d-man and is entering his prime years. Add the fact that not a lot of quality d-men are available as UFA's this year and he may have received even better offers. I'm happy with paying that much money for a #1 d-man.

I really like Montreal's potential if they can get Souray locked up, having their two top D, and a ton of offensive potential in their young guys. Who knows, maybe Samsonov and Kovy will pick it up tongue.gif. Seriously though, they look good.

lol from an unbiased stand point, and i've had them both in the fchl so i like both guys, Markov is clearly a better defenseman than McCabe. McCabe isnt even the best blue liner on the Leafs.

Now Kaberle and Markov is a better comparison in terms of ability

So just because Kaberle is a better defenceman , makes Markov better than Mccabe???

You might argue that Markov is better defensively, however Mccabe is far the superior offensive defenceman...

MCCABE's numbers this year
2006-07 TOR 82 15 42 57 3 115 11 23

Markov's numbers

2006-07 MON 77 6 43 49 2 56 5 27

9 more goals 8 more points...Didnt miss a game....

Better plus /minus even though Mccabe had more PP points..Meaning Markov was on the ice for more Goals against...

This signing by Montreal shows that the Mccabe signing was at worst a good signing last year..

I'm really happy we signed Markov he's worth what he got and could of got more as a free agent. He's our go to guy on D and we had to keep this guy around, he's worth so much to us on the ice. Sourray is the big question now. I don't think he's worth more than Markov but he might get more. I want to sign him though just because we didn't trade him last year. Sign him then trade him, that would be sweet.

no serge, i was saying that you are better judging markov against kaberle as he is clearly better than mccabe. in terms of overall ability as a defenseman markov should be compared with kaberle and mccabe with souray.

you are looking it from a stats only point of view, understandable given you are a fantasy freak like many of us but there is more to the game than stats and markov is the better rounded player.

plus you say he stats are vastly superior yet he had 9 more points in 5 more games. that isnt vastly superior in my book but that is a matter of opinions
