"Stars president Jim Lites couldn't believe the lack of acknowledgement by the Nashville Predators when Dallas forward Mike Modano tied and then broke the record for goals scored by an American-born player Saturday, according to a published report.

"Their owner, management, public relations people, coaching staff -- I think they all failed the game," Lites told the Dallas Morning News. "It's because of people like Mike Modano that they even have a team in Nashville. He has helped pioneer the game in the South, and for him to be treated like that in a milestone moment ... it's just a horrible thing."

Lites' disdain for the Nashville organization wasn't just limited to the events surrounding Modano's record.

"I understand it's a competitive situation, but we're also working together to sell the game," Lites told the paper. "They get more money from revenue sharing than any team in the league, they voted against the new schedule because they wanted to have an easier schedule for themselves. They take and take and take and take and never give back, and I'm sick of it."

Modano's two goals Saturday gave him 503 for his career, breaking Joe Mullen's record. Modano's accomplishment was never mentioned over the PA system at Nashville Arena."

A few days old, but I have to say I agree with him on a lot of points.

The Dallas Stars charter plane could catch fire and plummet to the earth, killing every soul aboard, and the sum total of sympathy they'll ever get from me can be summed up in this picture.

Ok, so I'd probably feel a little bad, but whatever. They stole my damn Cup.

Even if the goal was reversed, the Sabres still had to score and then win game 7 in Dallas.

Just like a Buffalo fan to wish death and suffering on innocent human beings..

There's a subtle difference between "wishing death" and laying out a theorhetical method for expressing as-yet unwarranted emotions.

Meh, Nashville didn't have to do anything, but the Stars honoured Recchi when he scored his 500th in Dallas earlier this year, so it would have been nice for other teams to extend them the same courtesy.

I remember seeing that and commenting on it on this forum. I thought it was pretty classy of them to acknowledge it, so I can understand why they're frustrated that Nashville can't do the same for them.

I'm only asking because I truly don't know the answer here:

Is it possible that this was just a simple oversight on the Preds part? Also, did the goals come before or after Modano - Tootoo - Robidas incident?

Is it possible that not acknowledging the goals wasn't anything personal?
Kyle Wellwood
As a player this is insulting. If I am lucky enough to score 500 goals in this league and the opposition didnt acknowledge it I would make sure never to play for that organization, and let my friends know as well.

Bad decision by the Preds.

It was after. It is a good point, but it is still garbage. When Sakic scored his 500th against the Canucks, the Canucks and Avs were violent rivals. The Canucks fans still gave him an ovation and it was still acknowledged on the scoreboard.

I agree that it's garbage, but in the heat of the moment, it's kind of hard to ask your fans to cheer for a guy in the middle of an ugly incident like that.

I don't know why the Stars didn't have a PR person accompany them on the trip for when this happened. I'm sure if the Stars put in a request the Preds would have honoured it. Seems like Dallas just expected them to do it, which is a mistake I think.

According to what I have seen locallyhere in Nashville Dallas only asked for the net if he got the record which the preds gladly gave him and they did have an anouncement ready but was renigged on due to the Tootoo incident. They thought it might get a little ugly if they had announced. In addition to that it is not really a record anyway, "most goals scored by an American"??? Can anyone tell me who holds the most Goals scored by a Hatian or Laotian? Milestone maybe but he is not going to get an oficial record.

Would it really be that much of a shock to find out that they live together?

I just assumed Kyle sits on Serge's lap while he types.
