You can nominate anyone as long as they aren't on your favourite team.

Stephane Yelle is someone who has always stood out to me. He blocks shots, hits and will always take a hit to make a play. Whenever he scores a goal against your team it is frustrating as hell because you know your team got outworked.
canadianyanke
Darcy Tucker
mrdannyg
Kyle Wellwood.

sorry.

don't know if he's 'gritty' but it seems like Brian Smolinski scores in every single sens game i watch.

You took my answer, ever time they play the pens he shadows Crosby constantly. Every shift Crosby has he's there. Crosby's goal against the devils in the game this week was during the only shift madden wasn't on the ice.

Either the Mapleleafs aren't your favorite team, or you weren't paying attention to OP when they said "as long as they aren't on your favorite team."

I would have to say George Parros of Anaheim. Every team should have one designated player to sport a mustache. (I had a good picture of Parros, but couldn't get it to load on here)

All time? Dino Ciccarelli. And before that, Rocket Richard. I spent a day at the hockey hall of fame, watching footage in the archives. The Rocket took more abuse than any player I've ever seen..

For me, I classify gritty players as players with skill that are willing to pay the price down low or in the corners... A play-your-guts-out type of guy with high skill.....

I would say my top three would be Brendan Shanahan, Ryan Smyth (pre-tears) and Tomas Holmstrom..... all very skilled, all completely willing to do whatever it takes to win a game...

I think Teemu Selanne, at least since rejoining the Ducks, fits the same criteria of skill and sacrafice. He has been driving the net against any and all defenceman, scoring goals as he gets hit all season long. Nothing this season has taken him off his game.
DB10-2
sean avery gets honorable mention and would win a "who has the most heart, period?" contest, but i think the winner has to be shanahan. the guy produces at a high level constantly and isn't afraid to scrap even though he's what, 38?
