Anyone else really excited about this one? Venom was always my favorite Spider-Man villain and seeing him on the big screen makes my tits wet.

I'm thinking we're going to have the biggest movie opening again with this baby.
SuperJon
OMFG! I will surely nerd it up and see this at the midnight showing premiere.

I just really hope they don't kill off Venom in this movie, bring him in for the 4th one, and then incorporate Carnage. If that ever happens, I will be satisfied with my life.
ricker
yeah, I'll be nerding it up myself with a midnight showing as well.

If I'm feeling super saucy, I'll go to a midnight showing at the Chinese mann theatre.

Agreed. I just wish Topher Grace hadn't been cast in the role. Eddie Brock was a big, criminal-looking guy. Only Elijah Wood could skrew this role up worse (man, that guy is the worst).

Supposedly Topher quit That 70s Show so he can work on getting a little bulkier for the role. Haven't really seen him lately, so I can't say if he did or not.

Genetically, I'm sure it's impossible for him to get build anywhere close to reasonably within range of this role.

you're such a fan boy, Dutch. I'm much more concerned about if he can pull off the brock character than I am if he fits the body type ( he is more of a peter parker than he is a venom.. but I mean, who does fit the body type, vin desil? you want him to play brock?)

I'd be happier, yes. And I'm sure he can't capture the character, either. He was a ****ing giant jock. This is a goddamned joke. But, the CGI stuff they did with Sandman looks pretty sick.

I think the Rock would have made a great Venom if they could convince him to take it seriously, no hamming whatsoever. He can act ok if he tries and he makes more sense physically. Topher Grace as Venom? sketchy casting.....

I disagree, i think the role calls for a little hamming of it up. the more I think about it, the more I think the rock would have been perfect, other than a little old. But the rock is a serious actor these days.

That's where I stopped reading. I appreciate the fact that we share this common bond of loving the Dolphins. In fact, it turns me on a little (in a non homo sort of way), but you really don't have to love everything that comes out of Miami.

HATER! The rock is perfect for a villain in a super hero comic movie. That's right in the Rock's acting wheel house. This isn't shakespear, people, this isn't Kubrick. This is freaking spiderman 3

Yeah...I mean, look at what he did for the Mummy Returns.

The Rock + CGI = Movie Villain Gold

I would assume Duane would have a little more to work with in Spidey 3. Rock is a better choice than freaking Topher Grace.

Yeah, that's the only gripe I have with the previews I've seen. I'm not too sure about The Rock, but they definately could've found a bigger guy to play Venom.
IQCrash
Personally, if you're going to go Topher Grace on Venom - why not just do it right and go Frankie Muniz on that bitch.
IQCrash
The final movie trailer is out - now with Venomy goodness.

I have a feeling Spiderman III will be like Return of the King. Best movie of the year by far.

Eric Foreman as Venom will take some getting used to. However, Tobey Maguire seemed like an odd pick for Spiderman, and he has definitely pulled it off...maybe there is hope for Topher Grace.

Says who? Maybe to the kinds of assholes who wanted te see Ben Affleck in the role, or some bankable action star, but peaple who read the comic all pretty much thought he looked the part of Peter, and that he captured the personality better than one could ask.

TG is a joke, and I only hope that whoever wrote the script didn't know enough about the comic to give Brock a big part. Otherwise, it's going to ruin everything.

yeah any kid who read spiderman growing up would tell you Maguire was one of the best casting picks in recent memory. Topher Grace makes no sense....Eddie Brock is supposed to be a muscled over the top hothead (hence my pick for Venom, the Rock).

Once more, the Rock is just as bad. So what if he's big. Eddie Brock is white. The Rock is not. Sorry to sound like a racist, but that's a pretty big deal to me. That's why I never watched Daredevil because they cast Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin.

I think it depends on how identifiable the character is. Superman, Batman, Lex Luthor, or the Joker I would expect to be white, and I think most people think most people feel the same way. A lot of people know who those characters are and have a mental picture of them.

However, for lesser known characters I dont think the same applies. Some lesser known heros and a lot of villians, like Venom and Kingpin, fall into that category. A lot of people dont even know who they are. So the race of the character matters little to most people with the exception of the comic fan base.

Agreed, but only to an extent. I would think that most people seeing Spiderman 3 are fans of the comic. I would also believe that most of them wouldn't want Eddie Brock to be played by, let's say an Asian actor.

I guess the main thing I'm getting at is the Rock is not a good candidate for this character. However, I also have doubts about Topher Grace. Only time will tell, but I'm fairly certain that this movie will be great.

I think Rock could have been great. The character has to be somewhat manic....Brock was a lunatic.

Who is a big old white guy who fits that description? I dont think that race matters for a supporting character matters.....especially since the Rock can pass for a white guy with a tan. Having trouble thinking of a big ol white guy who could pull off this role. Someone like Vin Diesel would probably be so lame.

And I love you SuperJon....BUT....you are convinced the Rock would be a horrible choice but you only have doubts about topher grace? I am having difficulty wrapping my brain around that.

Toper Grace, I'm fairly sure can pull it off acting wise. Sure he's not the greatest actor in the world, but I still think he's leagues ahead of the Rock. Who knows, maybe they gave him some 'roids.'

I think the Rock is underrated as an actor. I really do. And sure Topher can act....quite well. But he would have to put on 100 lbs. to even be close to believable as Venom. Venom is supposed to be enormous. Topher Grace COULD....could have made a really really good Carnage with some red dyed hair and a bravura insanity performance.

Anyone know how they are going to explain Venom, since there will be no secret wars?

That's kind of how I feel about all movies that have characters taken from books or other sources. I don't care so much that they look like the character as much as I care that they can accurately portray the character.

I don't know anything about Spider-Man except from the movies, but the Venom character is a little confusing so far. The previews seem to make it seem like an evil alter-ego for Spider-Man and not necessarily a completely separate villain. Obviously the picture in the OP suggests otherwise.

If this is him here:

he seems fairly muscular. Not like Rock-big, but he doesn't look like a pansy boy.

Another pic...

The suit is an alien symbiote. It originally attaches to Peter Parker, but when he starts to "take over" so to speak, he gets rid of it. The suit then finds Eddie Brock...who becomes Venom. I'm not sure how closely they'll follow this, but that's roughly how it happens in the comics. For more...
