Hello -

I was playing in a tournament tonight at a local club. We were down to the final 4. Payouts were approx, 1600 for 1st, 650 for 2nd, 350 for 3rd, 160 for 4th.

I am in 2nd chip position on the button. Blinds are 5000/1000 with a 500 ante. The SB is the shortest stack, the chip leader is the BB. UTG folds. I look down at A icon_suit_spade.gif Q icon_suit_club.gif and raise to 30,000. ( I have about 120,000) - SB folds, Chip leader in the BB calls.

Flop comes K icon_suit_heart.gif J icon_suit_heart.gif T icon_suit_diamond.gif - I have flopped the nut straight! :-)

Chip leader moves all in!

Is there ever a reason to fold the nuts? If I win this hand, I will for sure win the tournament...lose, and I'm out in 4th.

I called... (BUT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IF ANYONE COULD FOLD HERE!)

Chip leader had A icon_suit_heart.gif T icon_suit_heart.gif

Turn was Q icon_suit_heart.gif

and I ended up out in 4th, losing to a royal.

Any commentary is welcome

Thank you
Ken

this is almost as stupid than the guy who posted about how he folded the nut str8 for fear of being outdrawn

,,,,,yoou can fold the nuts...but you must then quit poker for life

You called. You got outdrawn. It happens. Get over it.

If you're not willing to take that very very large chance that you will win, you shouldn't be playing tournaments.

Thanks for the responses. If I fold there, I can blind off into 2nd...but I couldn't fold it (and don't think I should have)...just wanted some other opinions.

Thank you

I'd shove my chips into the middle so fast that I'd probably spill my beer all over the table.

Tough break.

At worst, he has a set or a flush draw, but even then you're a huge favourite to win. No way you can lay this down. If you do, you're playing to not lose, not playing to win.
