I'm currently watching The Godfather and I'm getting very frustrated because the disc keeps lagging. How do you go about cleaning a disc? I hear flushing it down the toilet works but it seems kinda gross to me.

Steel wool and ammonia is surprisingly effective.
Mostly because you'll end up having to buy a new disc, which will work perfectly.

I'm pretty sure that with any disc (cd, dvd) you are supposed to wipe with a soft cloth (I use the ones you get to clean glasses) from the center out in straight lines.

I remember in high school a teacher scratched a disc then tried to play it. Didn't work.
He then took a small amount of toothpaste (an abrasive) and wiped the disc from outside in, not in a circle. He rinsed it under warm water, and the disc played perfectly.
Microwave works first.
