How many people on this forum actually live in Vegas ? My wife and I are hoping to move back there within the year.
Here's on background on me to start.
* I was born and raised in L.A. and lived there for over 30 years. Visited Vegas a lot.
* Lived in Vegas ( Green Valley) for over 3 years then got married and moved to Madison Wisconsin where I have lived for the last 15 years.
* Wisconsin has been good to me, but it's time to get out.
* I travel on business to Vegas about 4-5 times a year, always play poker.
* I play at various casinos around the country as I'm traveling.
As the real estate market has slowed down, and we are looking to retire, it seems like a good time to start "sniffing" around the Vegas Valley for some property.
I know many people like Sumerlin, and the North and Northeast are probably not the best places to look. I always was a fan of the Southeast/Southwest side of town, anyone got any suggestions of good areas to look in ?
We want to build a house (most likely) and would like to live in a decent area, with driving access to Vegas and poker as necessary.
Where is the new building going on ? Southwest side ? Where would you build a house in the $850,000 or less range ?
Are there any areas left that still feel like a "community" with good neighbors etc ??
Is there a "pocket" of Vegas (Summerlin ?) where many of the pro poker players live ?
In my retirement, I would like to play on the WPT/WSOP, at least part time.

It's starting to get expensive to live there. Housing slowdown or not, prices sure haven't slowed down in Vegas.
Developers pretty much have the area cased for land. It'll be a struggle to find and get affordable land to build a house on for your desired price unless you're willing to live out in, say, Blue Diamond or Boulder City, maybe old Henderson. It's not so much building price, but availability. Hopefully they've left some SW pockets untouched and you can land yourself a parcel. If I knew of any, I'd tell you straight away. :/
As for the 'community' feel, you can find it in isolated pockets (and the locations of these can vary, come and go), but the feel of the city is really one giant suburb. Once you start playing regularly at the same casinos, though, I can't imagine you won't get to know a whole slew of like minded players and people.
