I was under the impression that Dana White had some HUGE announcement he was making today. Thought I read that in previous posts.
I found the fight tonight to be irritating. Black belt in BJJ has full mount and blows it? That's just bad. If you get a wrestler on his back you are in pretty good shape. I was annoyed. End rant.

yeah I loved the "get full mount, then get the guys back, then... jump over to get back into guard????" what the hell was that?
to me it just looked like he was
too comfortable on the ground/on his back, and because of it he never really went for anything else full steam. what confused me was that his corner continued to encourage him to do the same thing even though it was obvious he was behind. third round you gotta go for something if you know you're behind.

His corner kept telling him to get into butterfly guard, which he didn't listen to often enough. The butterfly makes it harder for the person on top of you to throw punches/elbows down on you and also gives you the ability on the bottom to better position yourself for submissions. The few times he did listen to the corner he was either able to sweep or limit damage being done to him.

yeah I heard that about three times. the rest of the time it was "goood gooood thats what you want to be doing" and it wasn't only while he had butterfly guard. it just seemed like he and his corner both were just too content to just lay in the guard, butterfly or not, and occasionally look for submissions. gotta be more proactive if you want to win a fight, at LEAST in the third round when you know you're behind.

I wish his corner would have STFU - Why do they put a microphone right next to them? I found myself struggling to even focus on the fight cause all I could hear was this annoying voice repeating the same s
hit over and over and over. And my wife was sitting next to me reading, she was like, what the hell is that guy yelling about, shut up!
I'm not saying it was bad advice or they shouldn't yell out help. But damnit, keep the microphone more than 2 feet away!

well, what I thought, and correct me if I'm wrong, when you have someone's back, if you get too high, sometimes it can transition into an armbar, and I think he just gave up on the back and immediately tried for the armbar instead of hanging on for the ride on the back and work for the body lock and choke. I could be wrong. I chalked it up to him swinging for the fences again.

you're talking about the mount to back thing? I'm trying to imagine how that would get to an arm bar, what do you mean? like kind of jumping forward over him and grabbing the arm? seems really complicated but I think I can see what you mean. either way, if thats what he was doing, it still fit in with the rest of the submission attempts it seemed like, where he would go for the submission but not all the way. I don't know if I'm explaining that enough to make sense, but it was like he would go for an armbar without really grabbing the arm... I don't know, it just looked weird.

yeah, when you have someones back and you're too high, if you can get a wrist, then as your sliding past the head, you can lock up the arm. Again, I may be wrong. It's just what I've taken from watching MMA and listening to Joe Rogan and Frank Mir. I'm probably wrong.

Tim just had a terrible game plan in there. He thought he was going to just chill in his guard and easily sweep or submit Taylor. He ended up getting overpowered in just about every scramble and was just eating punches in his guard. He wasn't controlling posture and he wasn't creating any space for his submissions nor was he setting anything up, he was just throwing his legs up and jesse was just powering out of everything. As for when he had the mount, he ended up being sloppy and going for an armbar instead of securing position. His BJJ not just in this fight, but others as well has been very sloppy for someone that's a legit blackbelt. I think he does not adapt it very well to MMA, he was fighting out there like it was a grappling match.

Kidding. But he didn't go for an armbar in mount, she went for it when he was sliding off the back over the head. He wasn't on mount long enough to pee on JT. He got one punch in but was too busy trying not to get bucked off. JT readily gave up his back twice

I see the Affliction's shows prelim card is on FSN. The UFC should do the same thing on Spike or wherever for there events. Still have 3 or 4 unaired bouts for filler for the ppv card, but have a 2 hour block of live prelim bouts on free tv as an infomertial to sell the PPV card. The cards on the UFC are so deep nowadays that its a shame that some fights dont get shown.

I gotta think that selling another 15-20k ppv plus the money from whoever broadcasts the prelims would exceed what on demand would lose in business.

Diaz was very unprofessional coming into this fight 9 lbs overweight from the contracted weight of 160. They agreed to a catch weight of 168 lbs, but this was on the day of the weigh-ins when Diaz knew he couldn't make it. His opponent Corbbrey gets some of Diaz's purse, but he shouldn't have to go into a fight with such a huge disadvantage. I like Diaz as a fighter, but I hope Corbbrey beats him. There's just no excuse to miss weight by this much. He's going to have a huge advantage in size come fight time.

Nick Diaz has been the epitome of unprofessional since I started watching and reading about MMA, which has been about a year now.
He was suspended after a fight for pot and had to do 6 months.
Then he threw a fit when his fight was stopped for a cut.
Then he couldn't get approved by the board due to him having a pot permit or his medicals being late or whatever, even though he said he wouldn't test positive before his last fight.
Now this.

he has an interesting stand up. World class jujitsu, insane cardio, so who knows. His stand up, he just peppers the face with short little punches, letting the accumulate. If nothing else, Elite delivers the knockouts.
I can't remember seeing a flury of punches faster than the one's Noons threw once Yves went down. That was a flurry. I guess it helps when you have all of your energy left because the fight is only 30 seconds old.
The Diaz brothers are such punks. Talented punks, but punks just the same. And him being allowed into the ring after Noons' fight was bush league WWE stuff.

I recorded the Adrenaline show that was on and watched it afterwards, there was one pretty good middle weight fight there and them a matchup with a asian guy who couldn't stop kicking his opponent in the crotch and got DQ'd. I agree with you on the Tanner fight. He looked awful, and you really never know with that guy. He has serious issues. I think Grove's length will really cause some problems.
I also like Lister over Horn, although it could be close. If it stays standing, Horn may eek one out. If it goes to the ground, it will be a boring decision by Lister. I think Lister wins by being a better athlete (even though Lister has gassed in the past).

Anyone catch Dream 4? Some pretty good fights and I really love how they stack their cards up all the way. Also doesn't hurt that it's free on HD Net as well.
The Jacare/Miller fight was awesome from a technical grappling perspective. 2 very skilled grapplers going at it and Jacare was just better, but Mayhem acquitted himself well.
Everyone also needs to check out the Aoki fight as well or at least the finish of it. He finished his opponent with a gogoplata from the mount, yes from the mount.
Alistair Overeem had a sick KO. I wish he would be more consistent, because he's an awesome fighter. You just don't know what you're going to get from him each fight though. A fight with Cro Cop would be awesome though. I also like him way more at Heavyweight, seems like he's too drained fighting at Light Heavy.
Seeing Ralek Gracie fight was reminiscent of Royce Gracie in the UFC days. The stomp and push kick were just hilarious. His stand-up was horrendous, but the armbar he pulled off was really slick.
It sucked to see Sakuraba get destroyed like that, but it wasn't a big surprise really.
Some of the other fights were also great as well, I really enjoy the whole production of the show as it's pretty much like Pride redone. I'm looking forward to the semi's for both grand prix's, should be some explosive fights.

I laugh at the Diaz brothers. They instigate shit like little kids. Nate giving the finger then them dancing up the stage was funny to me. I wish it was sad, but I find it hard to take things that are run by Shaw serious. When Noons finished his interview he had the guy in his ear pointing to Diaz telling him what was going on and what he should say. Just a bummer.
It seems like EliteXC sets their cards to get all these KOs.
