First class update....I obv will rarely post about what happened at the classes cuz it'll usually be boring but today was the first time. So I got to the gym like 5 minutes before the BJJ class started and started talking to this dude about the class he said "yea don't worry you'll get the hang of it fast just by doing the drills" meanwhile randy was in the back doing some sort of affliction photo shoot... so I went in to start class and I was dry mouthed after the 5 minute warm up doing sprawls and shit..
After that we started to do drills and I was barely learning to do an armbar and a kimora, it's so ****ed up that when I'm watching it on tv I'm like "pull his had down, rotate your hips, roll back" or whatever, but I couldnt ****ing get the hang of it that fast for the first few tries, then I kinda got it. Then we did one of us is in guard trying to get a sub and the other guy is trying to pass and mount. When the dude is actually struggling with you, the amount of energy you burn is ridiculous, I was finally able to pull a tiangle on the dude and switch to an armbar and get him to tap, after that they gave us a break like 30 mins into it. I couldn't talk and could barely walk...I grabbed water and I drank and felt like I was about to puke, started getting dizzy, sat down, minutes later I just got in my car and started driving...I opened the door at a stop 2 blocks away from the gym and puked all the water I drank. And the whole 5 minute ride back home I just felt like I was gonna pass out. I've been in bed for an hour and a half recovering.....I ****ing used to run 1:30 soccer games, and thought that laying on a mat or on top of someone wouldn't be hard at all, but I was WAY off, poker ****ed me too cuz now I can't even jog without getting winded and I've realized I've become a huge puussy I hope it won't be too embarassing when I go back on friday, I'm definitely gonna start running now.

well I made sure to go to the beginner JJ class....the dude I partnered with was an older guy who was also pretty noob-ish so it wasn't that bad....it just sucked that I was waaaay too winded. The instructor was also great and super helpful paying more attention to me since I was new than to the other dudes.
Also when I was in guard and he was trying to pass I started pulling down on the back of his head when he postured up because otherwise I wasn't flexible enough to pull my legs up and thats when I originally was able to get a triangle attempt....anyway this was right before the break when I was about to pass out so I couldn't ask the teacher, but the dude said I shouldn't be pulling down on his head. I think I should right? Any guys with experience in BJJ know wether or not this is correct?
Anyway, I'll def blog about this stuff because I'm super excited about it, I used to do Judo back in highschool but it doesn't even really compare...it's been 2hrs and I already feel every muscle in my body like if I had just lifted weights, especially my lower back.

haha, thats awesome. please do keep updates coming. this description really reminded me of wrestling in high school. first off, I know exactly what you mean about yelling things to the guy but it being so completely different when you're in there. I remember looking at matches or even practices and just seeing where the guy needs to be going, but man, once you're in there, its just hard to figure out where your hips are, where your left hand is, where his left hand is, where your head is pointed, where your center of gravity is, and on and on and on, and ALL at the same time and constantly! it really is soooo much more difficult to do it than to say how to do it. and also as far as the conditioning: nooo kidding. very similar in wrestling because you are constantly going and constantly putting at least 70% of your energy/force into it because you have to. its just so unbelievably draining it really is hard to describe. I still say the best shape I've ever been in in my life was when I wrestled, and I kinda doubt I'll ever be in that good of shape again. kinda wish I had something like that around here and time to do it.

pretty sure the UFC has there legal shit in order so the blackmail theory is wrong. He is one of Matt Sera's boys so he has an in there. Plus he was part of the most memorable fight to date on TUF this season. Maybe he was under contract with the UFC before TUF, Mac Danzig was.

Well, they have a bunch of classes
here's their schedule...but after today I think I'm gonna stick to BJJ and running until I feel I have enough cardio to try muay thai and the rest of it because I've tried punching and kicking a heavy bag for more than a minute and I feel like I'm dying....Eventually though I do want to try everything and get decent at it, not that I would ever have the balls to compete or anything but I've always liked doing MA as a discipline, and it should go great with poker to handle frustration and ego etc...

so wait, it was the same guy then? I thought the name was similar and the guy looked the same but I googled and nothing came up about the knockout. if so, I would think the only reason would be the contract possibility, which I would think is slim but who knows. and yeah he was part of the most memorable fight in TUF so far, but he was in the absolute worst part of it. seems odd for them to offer a guy a fight because he got knocked out worse than anybody has ever been knocked out before.
and I don't doubt the ufc has their legal shit in order, but even the most protected companies have liabilities (not that I think this is actually what is going on, just saying).

Yea I hope Sherk looks like Stephenson did at the end. I think the Tito/Machida fight could be entertaining if Tito shows up. Jardine is a pretty boring fighter but still a good matchup. I might have to sign up for UFC on demand because some of those prelims look pretty goo too. I wish they had a option for the PPV where you got the whole card live for about $10 more.

There's a few sites out there that you can stream the PPV fights w/ a slight delay for free. That's what I did for the last one. Just do a little searching for them, if you want a cheap/free way to view the fights in almost real time. I guess I'm not sure about if they show the prelim fights, though.

Man, I agree. B.J is freaking awesome. When he said, "I'm a kimbo slice fan." That shows what kind of fighter he is. He is one of the most amazing jits guys ever but he is scrappy as hell too. Also I think he gave some very honest self-assessments about his work ethic in the past and how he's working on his cardio.
He also seems legitimately PISSED at Sherk. I also feel like Sherk seemed very guilty in that interview.
B.J puts him on the spot about steroids and he can't say shit.. He's like [labored sarcasm] "Oh,
yeah man." [/labored sarcasm]. It's funny, because B.J got so fired up about it the reporter who asked him the question became quite intimidated, LOL.

Also, Fedor by armbar. Tim Sylvia is an easy fight for Fedor because he has no sub defense whatsoever. I would much rather see Randy vs Fedor!

my thinking is that the dude knows he's prob gonna get his ass kicked... and that will hurt him more in getting a good deal with a different org. than if he takes a knee and passes it off as "I just did that to piss dana off" etc... his ego won't get hurt as much and he'll be able to piss UFC off. However I still don't think this is likely at all, it probably says somewhere in his contract that he cant do that and he also won't want to piss off his fans, but I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if he did.

Fighting out of Minneapolis, Brock Lesnar, 6'3 ½", 265 lbs., made his mixed martial arts debut in 2007 and annihilated Min Soo Kim in just 69 seconds. He made an impressive UFC debut earlier this year at UFC 81, just falling short of victory against former UFC champion Frank Mir. The NCAA wrestling champion and former professional wrestler now returns to the Octagon to take on one of the fight game's true legends, Mark "The Hammer" Coleman, in an attempt to score his first win in the UFC.
"This fight can't come soon enough; I'm ready to go and I'm excited! I'm still looking to make a name in the UFC and I get a chance to do that in my hometown, which is great for the fans," said Lesnar. "It's an honor to get a chance to fight Coleman, he's a legend and he's made history fighting all over the world. I know he is going to come into this fight in great condition, looking to re-establish himself as a top contender in the UFC. It's going to be a challenge, and I'm looking forward to it."
Columbus, Ohio's Mark Coleman, 6'1"/255 lbs, is a former Olympic wrestler, NCAA wrestling champion and a pioneer in the sport of mixed martial arts. He won the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournaments and became the first-ever UFC heavyweight champion in 1997. In the PRIDE® organization, Coleman scored impressive wins over some of the biggest names in the sport, including Kazuyuki Fujita, Don Frye, Igor Vovchanchyn, and "Shogun" Rua. Inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in March of this year, Coleman now returns to the Octagon where he first made his name in MMA, and he plans on showing Brock Lesnar a few tricks while giving him a rude introduction to the ground and pound style he trademarked.
"My goal since I left the UFC was to eventually get back into the cage; I'm much more comfortable in the cage, and when I finally got the offer from Dana it didn't take any time to give him my answer - especially when he told me who my opponent would be," said Coleman. "A lot of people are interested in this matchup, I'll be up against a bigger, stronger wrestler for the first time, and they know this fight will be extremely intense from the start. But I didn't take this fight to lose, I expect to win and win by knockout."
Also on UFC 87 main card is a lightweight showdown between Boston's Kenny Florian and Minneapolis' Roger "El Matador" Huerta.
Kenny Florian (10-3) made his UFC debut on Season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter®, advancing to the finals before losing to Diego Sanchez. Since then, Florian has dropped just one fight in the UFC, a classic five-round battle against Sean Sherk for the vacant UFC lightweight title in October 2006. Vying for a second title shot, Florian has proved himself worthy by racking up victories over the best fighters in the division, including Dokonjonosuke Mishima, Alvin Robinson, Din Thomas and most recently Joe Lauzon. Florian's plan is to move Huerta out of his way at UFC 87 and put himself right in line for another shot at the crown.
"I'm really excited to be fighting Roger Huerta; and this is the fight I wanted because he's the other big lightweight in the UFC, and he is definitely at the top of the division," said Florian. "I've never fought a guy in his hometown, so this is going to be different for me, but no matter where we fight it's going to be a back and forth non-stop war. We are both aggressive and Huerta is always in great shape; he's one of those guys who just hangs in there, so when you have the chance, you have to finish him, and that's what I'm gonna do."
Hailing from Minneapolis, MN, Huerta (21-1-1) made his UFC debut in September 2006 at UFC 63, where he scored a unanimous decision victory against Jason Dent. The 25 year-old has since tallied five straight wins in the Octagon™ against lightweight contenders John Halverson, Leonard Garcia, Doug Evans, Alberto Crane and Clay Guida, running his perfect record in the UFC to 6-0. The first fighter ever to fight five times in one year, Huerta is on a vision quest to become the UFC lightweight champion, and he will let no one, including Florian, stand in his way.
"This is going to be a really great fight, it will distinguish who will be the number one contender," said Huerta. "I'm looking forward to fighting Florian, he is a technical fighter and comes in with a great game plan, but I have a game plan too, so I think this is going to be a chess match, one where we both use all our MMA skills to stay in there. I'm really excited to fight in Minneapolis, the support I get here is amazing, this city has adopted me, this is where I train for all of my fights, and I can't wait to bring it a win in August."
The remaining bouts for UFC 87 will be announced in the near future. All bouts are live and subject to change. For further information on the UFC visit ufc.com or uk.ufc.com or ufcespanol.com.

The fact that Kimbo is headlining on major network TV is bad for MMA. It's a step in the wrong direction. You have to look at the bigger picture.
Who are you blameing for this?

my thinking is that the dude knows he's prob gonna get his ass kicked... and that will hurt him more in getting a good deal with a different org. than if he takes a knee and passes it off as "I just did that to piss dana off" etc... his ego won't get hurt as much and he'll be able to piss UFC off. However I still don't think this is likely at all, it probably says somewhere in his contract that he cant do that and he also won't want to piss off his fans, but I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if he did.
Ya - and even if the contract didn't say something about it specifically, Dana wouldn't pay him and would let it drag out through the legal system for years. Just to be a d
ick. It just isn't worth it.

I totally disagree with BJ about Kimbo. The fact that Kimbo is headlining on major network TV is bad for MMA. It's a step in the wrong direction. You have to look at the bigger picture.

That is hilarious.
On Tito, I always thought of this fight as either he's leaving and will do movies and Hollywood and won't train or will train like it's his biggest fight because he doesn't want Dana getting the upper hand in getting rid of him.

So I went onto Bodog and looked at the odds for UFC 84. Obviously I wasn't thrilled with the current lines. But more importantly, they only have lines on the top 3 fights. Does anyone know of any other sites where they have odds for the whole card. I have actually been spending some time and doing some research on all of the fights this time. So it would be great to see what the lines are. I know a lot of them are going to be ridiculous, I just want to have an idea. I also pray that MGM takes action on the undercard.

Interesting lines for future UFC's I thought might change a lot before they go off.
Hughes: -240
Alves: +190
Horn: -155
Lister: +125
Koscheck: -325
Lytle: +250
I really like Lister at that and jumped on him and Lytle, thoughts?

I've seen Bodog spread a bunch of the undercard fights in the past, but generally they don't open the lines until a day or 2 before the fight. Usually Bodog has the worst (or best) lines depending on which way you want action.
For a more accurate view of what the lines will be like in Vegas, check out Pinnaclesports.com. They basically set the market on lines for most sporting events. As of right now, I can only find lines online for the 3 major fights.
Anyway, as for MGM, I'm not sure what they are going to do. I know when JC and I went to the Chuck/Rampage fight at MGM (already a year ago wow) they had quite a few prelims on the board. However, at Mandalay they usually just let you bet the main card. So who knows, but I'm pretty sure we won't be able to bet every fight.
See you in a couple days!

I like all three of those lines to be honest. The lister line I think is easily the best and I'd bet heavy on that one. That will turn into a ground match, and Lister is better then horn on the ground
