I found it kinda funny how physchotic he got with the whole food situation.
Alas, I know what it's like. When I played chess when I was younger, I went to Spain for a 2 week long tournament. Now that was bad food. No healthy food, no fried food, no nothing. I lived off hard bread rolls and yoghurt drinks.

But my advice to DN, try not to think about it too much, it only makes it worse.

I kind of know what he is going through.

When i was young, i was a very fussy eater. I didn't eat meat or anything healthy. It was just pasta and peanut butter sandwiches for me. On our school trips in middle school i was always scared i wouldn't find anything to eat. I would have to pack little packages of peanut butter in by suitcase so if there was bread, i would be able to make a sandwhich.

He is upset because he is a vegan. It must be hard getting vegan food in most places let alone Tunica!

Suitcases on field trips?

I guess one idea, given his resources, would have been to make a couple of calls in advance of his arrival, and have some place bring him some food that's more to his liking. ... Especially since he had already been there previously, and knew the food there wouldn't suit him.

Making accomodations doesn't fix the problem. The truth is that Tunica needs to get more healthy overall, not just in the week the WPT is there.

I still think it is mildly amusing that he has been there the last several years, knows the food isn’t what he is looking for but still does nothing to prepare!!

Why would he be surprised by this?

Whatever

field trip, band camp: same difference

Why wouldn't he just pay a kid to go to the grocery store? I'm sure they don't deep fry their produce.

Closest grocery store=20 minutes away. Seriously. It's part of the problem.

Another suggestion is to get a room with a stove/fridge, find out where a nearby grocery store is, make a list, go there and get what you need when you arrive or the day after. This'll put you back in total control of your diet.

Tunica's food sucks but your's doesn't have to wink.gif

I have done things to prepare. I brought soy milk, Oatmeal, miso soup, energy bars, etc. Thing is, I can't live on that alone and there are no grocery stores around here. I have a fridge at EVERY hotel I stay at.

Dude, why don't you go out to a pasture and graze on some hay?....How about some tree bark?.......Canadians.....Take off......Why not try a good old chill dog, fries and a big gulp?...That's real brain food.......

Just kidding.....Give them hell in Borgata

Hey DN,

I was a vegan for a number of years a while back. Man, it was worth it but was it hard. Almost never could I go out to eat in a restaurant. Most people do not realize that even your average bread crumbs off the shelf have whey in them.

After four years my body yelled at me one time too often and I broke down and had some tuna. Six months later I was a full carnivore again. Ive been finding that the better I control my diet, the more focused I am at the tables. So, DN, all the power to you!

I think he should starve during every tournement, has he not FT'd the last three trips there? Maybe there is something too it? I bet realestate is cheap there too. Hmmm.
grocery_mony
He should take his 500k and open a vegan/vegetarian restraunt in one of the casinos down there. No competition and the vegan/vegetarian food business has very good potential.

Yeah...Don't you have to pack a suitcase when going to Neverland Ranch?

Spanish food is brilliant. Ranges from basic meat to fantastic seafood. You must just be picky eater.

I'm hungry now (not for oats though).

There aren't any grocery stores close to the cacinos in Tunica. Atleast he got a sub sandwich
sorry about the food situation in the south tongue.gif

I have played in Tunica at least a hundred times over the last 4 years and although the food is bad... there is still a buffet with a fresh salad bar and also plenty of fresh fruits and veggies.

I will agree there aren't a ton of options in the area, as there really isn't much till you get towards Memphis, but there is a grocery store about 20 minutes away which I've gone to many times when staying at the Goldstrike or Horseshoe.

I usually bring protein shakes and bars like Myoplex and then make a run to the grocery store for the rest and put it in my fridge. It takes a little bit of work, but between that and the fresh fruit and veggies at the buffet it's usually not too bad. Plus there is a Subway restaurant only 5 minutes away.

I also agree that the Tunica Casinos should offer more healthy choices, but most people in Tunica aren't there but a couple days and the ones that live around there and are regulars aren't exactly the same type of health, fitness and fashion concious people that are in Las Vegas. It probably just doesn't make business sense to them. Maybe not enough of a demand for that market.

You would think they would at least offer a few items on the menu though. smile.gif
