Real situation..... Down to 20 players, 18 make the money. Because of the last couple beats we have two times the big blind after we ante up. We have no choice but to push 99% of our hands. We will be called and by multiple players as to gang up and take down a solid dangerous player and get closer to the money. They will probably also check it down so I'll have to win a showdown against multiple hands. What hands would be ideal here? Is there anything that we could muck, knowing BB is next? I posted this in tournament play but would like to see further discussion.

Probably push with any suited/nonsuited connector 45 and above, as well as 1-3 gap connectors. Any ace, any King, any Q. If its J2 or seomthing, then lay it down.

Only hands you should fold are 72, 83, 94, 10 5, J2... you get the idea.

I havent read any strategies as to what to play or fold in this type of situation, so these are my standards.

Would like AA in that postion more often that not.

But in all honesty if your holding at least a jack in that position its good for the other half of your chips. Question came as a little vague but if you dont get the rest of your chips in the pot, you do not stand to win anything significant.

You can still fold an awful hand like 28o and toss your chips in on the BB next hand.

Either way, you are going to be all in on this hand or the next. Go with anything reasonable.

stacks of others. Are others realy low too ?
This reminds me to say. I can't believe the difference with stars vs Party and how no one gets that low in the Stars 180. You''ll see very few really short stacks, in my experience at least.

Ok, but if we assume top heavy payouts and no other super low stacks, I'm usually waiting for a strong hand here; but prefer to wait for the BB, actually.

Here's why: When you are the BB less hands will be against you. You''re just looking to survive and breathe a bit

Seems right?

Actually, Actuary makes a great point.

If you have even a few thinking players with decent stacks, your UTG push is likely to be called in a bunch of places and then just checked down.

Even though it's possible this happens while you are in the BB, I think it's a lot less likely to happen in that case.
