Yeah, I understand why you'd stick around Australia for a couple extra days.

EDIT: Do you know your schedule for Tunica? I'd like to come down and see you play.

AGGH! Can't get a room in Tunica 19th-24th!

We booked for the weekend (1/27) Everything is full, trying to talk hubby into calling in sick to work so we can go early and just not sleep til our room is ready!

LOL!!! I want to go so bad I can't stand it icon_frown.gif

Try a place out of tunica county. Last January I had to stay in Southaven. About 20 to 30 minute drive, but might be your only option.

Try online via harrahs website. Sometimes you can find a deal, or double check the hotel sites to make sure.

Good luck. Im actually leaving after my tournament tommorrow unless I make the final table...in which case im in trouble for a room.....

Thank you for the reply icon_biggrin.gif

We might just drive up early, we do have a room booked on the 27th, but WSOP is done by then I'm sure...

Biggest problem is getting out of work LOL!

Good luck in your tournament!! icon_dance.gif

Yeah, I also recommend Southaven. The new I-69 cut-through cuts off a good 20 minutes, so from Southaven, you could be in Tunica in 10-15.

If you need full directions or more info, email me at vogad@rock103.com. I'll hook you up.

Daniel Hates Tunica. The food is not to his liking at all, and he complains in his blog every year that he goes there.

When you are used to the life of Vegas and AC, Tunica is a dump.
compncards
Tunica is no more a dump than AC is. The only difference is that there are more places to eat and a little more to do in AC. At least you dont feel like your driving through a ghetto to get to a casino in Tunica. Ive actually had people not go to certain bathrooms after midnight at the Taj because they were afraid to be mugged.

I would much rather play in Tunica over AC but its twice as far to drive. Maybe some decade they will get poker legalized in NC.

The problem with Tunica is it's an hour away from Memphis. It's literally seven casinos surrounded by farmland. So for someone like DN, it really isn't a favorable place, because he's not the average tourist. He's not there to gamble a bit and go check out Memphis for a day. His job brings him to Tunica, like someone's job might bring them to Des Moines. Cool places in their own right, but unendingly boring for those who do business there.

As for the food....well, that's the South. I can't defend southern cooking. At all.

Before the I-69 cut-through that opened about six months ago, that's exactly what you drove through to get from Memphis to Tunica. Not from casino to casino, but to get there, you go through some very iffy areas in Memphis.

I know what you mean. I still take the old route as the directions for the new route put me in Arkansas...so apparantly I had some bad directions.

Hey Memphis- My husband and I are staying at Hollywood Casino this Sunday. We are going down for the first day of the WPT tournament, my husband is hoping to get a glimpse of his favorite poker player, who else...Daniel smile.gif What questions did you have about Hollywood? We have been to Hollywood many times to gamble, but this will be our first overnight stay there.

Woohoo....my first post--hello everyone!

Hollywood is a tight place, imho. I've never won there. Sam's Town across the street has better food and better atmosphere.

I can tell you whatever you want to know...what do you want to know?

Hi! Wish I was in Tunica right now! As far as info on Hollywood Casino, basically, I'm just really anal when it comes to hotel rooms, cleanliness, etc...LOL! After reading DN's wonderful critique' of the food I am definately bringing some snacks!

Hey thanks again Membird for the heads up on Hollywood being a little tight, I am basically a slot player and hubby and I both like 3 card poker. We may have to head across the steet to Sam's if we hit a serious losing streak at Hollywood. You are a wealth of info, thank you!!

We made it back today from Tunica. I think Hollywood has a pretty nice hotel. I thought the room was pretty clean and my husband and I own a cleaning business so we should know wink.gif We had your basic double-bed room, it had a small fridge, I'm not sure if they all do or not but we didn't ask for one when we booked. The room also had a safe in the closet which was nice to have. However, they really don't have much to choose from as far as restaurants-- a 24 hr diner, a buffet, and one pricey place. I think if you look on their website they have a description of each one. But Sams Town is just across the street so you can find more options there.

I have played at Hollywood many times, but I really don't find them any tighter on their slots than anywhere else in Tunica---and I have been to them all. Here lately, I have played more video poker than anything else and they have a decent selection with good payouts. It seemed to me on slots that you were able to get some playback but Hollywood is not as big as some of the other casinos so they don't have a huge selection. I won $500 on a 50 cent WOF there today before we left. My husband said he saw a $5 3 card poker table. My inlaws went with us on this trip, they played at Sams Town and didn't get anything and they play alot more $$ than we do. The only place I have noticed where you don't seem to get much play for your money is Horseshoe. But we always seem to go there just because they have soooo many machines to choose from. The place looks small from the outside, but when you start walking thru there it seems like it just keeps going forever.

Anyway, I hope this gives you some idea of what the place is like. If you have any specific questions, just ask. --Oh yeah, we didn't get to see Daniel sad.gif I saw his post on one of the other threads that said he went to Horseshoe to eat last night. We were over at Gold Strike wandering around 8:30 so we probably just missed him. Dang, maybe next time.

The Grand "used to" have good video poker last year. This year when I went back, they didnt have much to choose from. Made a couple of hundred last January there. September I made about 60. This time I didnt even play due to lack of decent machines.

The gold strike had a nice selection. I mostly stick to 9 6 to 10 8 machines myself. I made about 300 bucks on the Jacks or Better machines. Im more of a consistent winner person as opposed to the one big hit type.

The Hollywood poker room isnt much to speak of. Not much action. Ive only every seen 2 tables going at one time max. Usually a 1-2 NL and a 3-6 Limit. (That was a wild game) Its a nice room however.

I cant give you any info on the hotel tho, as I normally stay at the Grand.

It's at Hollywood where I started my "electronic card shufflers are rigged" conspiracy theory last year. I was alone at a 5 dollar Blackjack table, new shoe. I went through 80 bucks in 20 hands, 5 dollars a pop. And it'd be one thing if I kept getting 15s and 16s, but I didn't have one hand DEALT lower than 18 in the entire run. In that 20 hands, the dealer had four blackjacks to my dealt 20s. I won once in the 20 hands, everything else was a push or a loss.

So....yeah. Not good feelings for the Hollywood.
MemphisRaines
I am with you on the "electronic card shuffler" theory. Played blackjack in a casino on a cruise last year, (ugh, don't EVEN get me started on THAT whole conspiracy theory) and my situation at the table sounds very similar to yours. With today's technology I wouldn't put it past the casino's!

GREAT post ABond007! Thanks so much for all the info on Hollywood's hotel! I wonder if any players from WPT will still be in Tunica by Saturday??

Seriously doubt it. There is another WPT event in AC starting soon. The preliminary events are running now. I just got back from up there playing in one of them.

Back from Tunica. Hollywood has a nice hotel. Very tight slots. There was a NLHE sit & go going on, but we just watched. Walked over to Resorts, lost way too much money playing Caribbean Stud, but we had fun. I think we'll try Cherokee next time around icon_biggrin.gif
