Full Version: Did I Give This Pot Away?

Game was at a card club. It was between 6 and 8-handed most of the night. This hand happened fairly early on, so I didn't have much in the way of reads on anyone. The only thing I knew was the other 6 or 7 guys were regulars, and I was a complete unknown to them. I had bought in for $100, and had probably around $120 at the start of this hand. Villian had probably $90ish.

Villian in EP raises to $12, I'm 2 seats to his left and smooth call w/ QQ, there is one more caller in LP ($39 in pot).

Flop comes 686. Villian leads for $12, I raised to $30 (in hindsight I should've raised more, maybe $40). LP folds, villian calls. ($99 in pot).

Turn 8. Villian checks and I check behind. I'm a little bit lost in the hand now. I don't see what hand he can call a bet from me that doesn't have me beat, maybe JJ, TT, and 99 are exceptions. Villian could very easily have a hand like A8 and be trapping me. The same could be said for AA or KK, but that seems less likely.

River K. Villian checks and I check behind. I'm not interested in a value-bet here, b/c I'd basically be putting my whole stack at risk w/ a very marginal hand at this point.

The only part of the hand that I'm a little iffy on is the turn. Is the better play to bet $50 (which basically puts villian all-in) on the turn, or is a check OK?

With stacks this shallow, i'd say betting the turn is the way to go.

I bet the turn. Why give the free card? The K (or an A) on the River is exactly the hand-cuff you were afraid of.

The only thing I have in defense of the turn check was waiting for a safe river to bet. He may try to bluff there w/ a hand like AK (2 pr, A-kicker). Like I said, I was a little lost at this point, so I just opted for the safest route. Probably a mistake.

I have this weakness too. Betting the turn is a must as is a bigger flop raise. With the K on the river the check behind is standard. I'm assuming AK.
