Ok, so I went and played a WII tonight and it was a lot of fun, so I'd like to buy one. Do any stores have them available? Is my best bet just paying the extra 150 or so on EBAY and doing it that route. Is there another shipment expected soon? I have no idea about video games and video game releases and stuff so I'd appreciate any help you guys have. Also, if you are looking to sell a WII, post in here as I'm obviously interested.

And to actually answer your question, just look around, you should be able to find one pretty soon now that xmas is over. Just ask around, and whatnot. Also check online places as well since they pop up from time to time.

I bought one on EBAY for $345 because I got pissed at both the places around me not having them and the attitudes of the workers when you inquired. Meh, for the headaches and gas money I figured $80 markup was worth it for me. I got Zelda, Madden and Trauma Center as my triumverate of games for it. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....or something similar.

I scored my Wii from a Gamestop last Friday after weeks of searching and just missing out. I agree with the above poster who indicated that they will become more readily available now that X-Mas is over.

For what its worth, Target will not be advertising them in their Sunday ads anymore as they will be putting them out on the shelf as soon as they get them instead of holding them to Sunday. I was told by the manager of the electronics department that they get their shipments about 11:00 am on Wednessday and put them up as soon as they can. Also, the Gamestop got their shipments daily (Monday thru Friday) at about noon. So my suggestion to you is to call around to find out when they get their daily/weekly shipments and try to hit the stores (or at least call) as close to the delivery times as possible. I'm guessing you can do the same for Best Buy, Walmart, etc.

As for the Wii system, my brother-in-law said it best, "It rocks my face off!!!"

The Wii sports (bowling, golf, tennis, baseball and boxing) game it comes with is so fun and you will see lots of "non-gamers" playing and having fun! The bowling is not overly hard (to pick up spares) but still is fun and challenging. My 4.5 year old son has the family record at 215!

In addition to Wii sports I have the following games....

- Zelda (it may be the best Zelda ever)
- Excite Truck (its like crack, without the glass pipe)
- Trauma Center (who doesnt like to preform surgery)
- Tony Hawk Downhill Jam (its different than other TH games in that everything revolves around a downhill race - fun, but I'd say rent it first)
- Call of Duty 3 (with Zelda, Wii sports and the others, I haven't played it yet)

As for accessories, I'd buy at least 1 more remote, and if you can afford it, I'd buy 3 more. It makes the games flow better (like bowling) when you don't have to share remotes. I also recommend the rubber sleeves for the remotes. I picked up a pack that included a stand for the games and remotes, two sleeves, a game case and a 512mb card for $40.

Can anyone tell I like the Wii? The only down side is that my poker playing has taken a back seat which sucks as I've been running good (shameless plug for my blog!!!! - see below). If anyone has any questions I'll try to answer them!

Good luck in your search and keep your head up!

Every store around me has plenty of all three new systems. But we have no idea if the stores around you have them.... one way to find out though.... go to the store and look. But it might be easier for you to just pay the extra $150 bucks though... because sometimes the crowds in stores are scary.... and the sun is very bright.

Nintendo is supposed to have 6 million available world wide by March, they should start getting easier to find now.

I got a system and an extra wiimote and nunchuck for $100 more than retail on eBay in November. That's what I would do so you can get extra controllers. Since then, I found 2 more wiimotes and nunchucks, so i have 4 of each for the multi player games. I also found a 2000 point card and classic controller for when they release better games on their virtual console (with NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafix games).

So far I have Wii Sports (do the fitness test every day), Excite Truck (very fun game you can play for a long time and not get sick of), Zelda, Elebits (cool multi-player and entertaining single player mode), Trama Center, and Super Monkey Ball. All of the games are a lot of fun and I can't wait until later in the next couple of months with the release of games like Super Smash Bros. WarioWare, Mario, and others.

I have yet to see any Wii's on shelves at retail stores I have been to. I have seen plenty of PS3's though. I think Nintendo came out with a real winner this time.

Not that I've seen. In fact, the only time I saw one is the same time I got my Wii.

Maybe I shouldn't have said plenty, but I have seen them on 4 different occasions. The first time was at a Best Buy there was one on the shelf. Someone grabbed it by the time I was leaving the store though. The second time I was at a Target. It was just sitting behind the locked window. A few kids were sort of huddled around it, but it was still there the second time I walked by 10 minutes later. The third time was at another Best Buy, but it was in someones hands in the checkout line. The fourth time was at a Wal-Mart, there were 2 behind the locked case and someone was asking the electronics guy if he could buy both. He only got one and the other was still there when I left the area.

I guess since I was seeing them, i assumed they were not going to be going for as much on eBay anymore or I maybe would have thought about getting one to sell.

All of the ones I saw were the 20 GB ones BTW

Around here (near Toronto) I call Toys R Us, EB, Best Buy and Future Shop every day trying to get a Wii and have had no luck. I have seen PS3's at Best Buy and TRU. Getting frustrated but I expect to get one soon.

Back when the Wii was upcoming, a buddy of mine suggested that I go pre-order with him. Taking things casually, having classes to deal with, and figuring they'd gradually become more available, I declined. Then they went scarce. A week before Christmas, I went on a Wii Hunt with a friend of mine. She wanted to pick up one for her husband as a surprise. I offered my help and figured if we found some, I could pick one up also. After visiting a number of different stores, it became clear that all the systems would be available at all the stores on the Sunday (8 days) before Christmas. We planned to get to two different Best Buys early...like around 5am for when the store opened at 9am. Around midnight, she calls and tells me to go ahead and get to the store cause people are lining up. So I headed down there with a couple of buddies and got in line. A few minutes later, it dawned on my buddies. "Wait...we're going to have to wait here 7 hours?" So they left. I played many games of Bags with other people waiting in line and holed up in my sleeping bag when it got cold. More and more people arrived as the morning arrived. Eventually, there were about 50 people in line. Fortunately, I got the 16th out of 17 available systems. One of the guys in front of me scalped his "ticket" for $200. I consider it a character building experience...and the Wii is quite fun.

Anyway, talked to a friend of mine today and he said he saw several on the shelves at Target within the past day.

Yea if you can get to a target in the middle of the day, it's probably the best place to get them.

I was at the Mall of America yesterday... every Game Stop type place there had signs on the window saying "60 GB PS3's in stock"... no Wii's though.

I was talking to a buddy of mine about the Wii. Let me get this straight, when playing Madden, if I want to throw a pass, I make the motion with the Wiimote? Also if Im playnig a shooting game like SOCOM, I hold the Wiimote like a gun?? This sounds sick. Also is there a way to play it like a regular controller?

That is correct. The only time you really use it as a "regular" controller is on some of the virtual console games (NES, SNES, N64, Sega, TurboGrafix that you download). Otherwise, you use it with it's motion capabilities.

Ok this is the sweetest thing Ive ever heard of. Now I have to go buy one.

Back to Madden, Do I just throw it directionally at the receiver I want, or press a buttton then throw? I have a feeling Im gonna suck at QB in the NFL icon_biggrin.gif

P.S. When will they come out with body suits?? I want to feel it when I go across the middle and get smoked by a Safety. Then I can call off work.

you will push a direction on the d pad or hit the button on the bottom of the control then make your throwing motion.

I played the Wii over Christmas break. My nephew had gotten one for christmas and brought it with him to my parents house.

He only had the sports game and Zelda.

We played all four of the Wii sports games and it pretty much sucked.

With the tennis and baseball, there was no finesse to using the controller. It reminded me of the gun that came with Duck Hunt. All you had to do was point in the general direction of the duck and it scored a hit.

thumbs down

So you're telling me that you went pro in both sports? Initially, it doesn't seem like there's much finesse, but the timing and twist you put on the wiimote definitely affect the results. It's pretty noticeable in bowling. Boxing drives me nuts with how inexact my punches are.

The main purpose of Wii Sports is to teach you how to use the Wiimote. I still find it fun however.

No, I didn't go pro.

The tennis was frustrating since I couldn't even specify forehand or backhand.

I watched him play some Zelda and the graphics certainly weren't ground breaking. I expected them to be seamless and cartoonish. I guess Zelda isn't really a game tailored to graphic display.

you need the component cables to get the best possible picture out of Zelda, and no they aren't ground breaking

the Wii only tops out at progressive scan HD, the game is still fun however

You have to remember that Wii Sports was basically a tech demo for the system that got good enough reviews from people playing the demo they packed it in as a free game. At my house so many hours have been put into bowling alone that I might need to start budgeting to buy extra batteries.

Zelda is a port of the GameCube version, it was designed to come out on that system but when they realized they could fit it in time wise with the Wii launch thats what they did, it's not fully taking advantage of the Wii hardware. Though if your looking for the most "realistic" graphics then the Wii really isn't for you.

Practice for a while in the boxing training, there is a sort of rhythm to it. Once you get it down it becomes much easier.

Graphics used to be a big deal, but these days having graphics that are a little better doesn't matter to me at all. Gameplay is much more important, and thw Wii brings a new way to play.

There's plenty of finesse when using the controller, especially in Bowling and Tennis. In Tennis and Baseball swing too early, it goes one way, too late, the other way...right on, it goes straight. In bowling, the slightest twist you make with the controller, the ball spins. In golf, hit to hard and the ball hooks or slices. In boxing, you can punch high and low, hook or upper cut. The sports is still the game a play the most and I have 5 other games.

The higher in level you get, the more difficult it is. Once I got to a 800 level in baseball, I couldn't win anymore until I got a lot better at it. You probably didn't know that before you pitch you can use the directional pad to make the throw a ball instead of a strike. Maybe you could hit every ball because only strikes were being thrown.

Anyway, I love the Wii...whatever with the graphics, I have fun that's all that matters.
