Live hand I played yesterday. Villain is about 22ish years old. Comes off as a decent player but thinks he's much better than he actually is.

$300 max NL 2/3 blinds

Stacks:

Me $300
Villain $340

Pre-Flop:

4 people limp, I limp button with card_spades_j.gif card_hearts_10.gif

BB(Villain) makes it $26 to go

Everyone calls (gotta love that)

Pot: $100

Flop:

card_clubs_8.gif card_hearts_9.gif card_diamonds_j.gif

Villain bets $50

Folded around to me, I'm debating a raise, but I don't see much fold equity because I'm putting him on a very strong hand AA, or KK

I call

Pot: $200

Turn: card_spades_10.gif

Villain checks, and I think for a little while, he says: I have the straight, so I'm gonna call whatever you bet. Now i'm pretty sure he doesn't have the straight, so I bet $110.

Pot: $310

He thinks for a while, which makes me feel good about my hand, but then he goes all-in. Don't like that but I'm too involved to fold, so I call.

Pot: $640 ish

River: card_diamonds_9.gif

Really a devastating card for me. Board is now paired, so my 2 pair is no good if he actually has AA or KK. I flip over my cards and say" 2 Pair" he looks at the board and then MUCKS!

What did he hold? I'm pretty sure I figured it out but I'm just wondering what you guys think.

Thanks!

Not meaning for it to sound like a brag. I honestly had no clue what he could have had. You really think AK? He's not that terrible to make that kind of play. Actually there's no way he had AK.

That or 77-22... or A8? Those are the only once you can beat LOL

Any chance he could have had AA/KK and not realised he had a better 2 pair?

That also went through my mind. He seemed pretty upset and got up from the table after the hand. It is possible that he didn't even realize the board paired on the river.

I'd say it's about 70% he had AJ, 10%AK, 20% AA, KK and he mucked the winner.

...he mucked the winner.

That sounds a little silly to me. My very first thought was Big Slick, but I could go for AJ too.

I realize that it's not very likely he mucked the winner, but judging from his reaction it is possible. The problem I have with him holding AK is why would he re-raise me all in on the turn when I'm only $100 behind. I'm too committed to fold. Even a complete donkey should realize that, and like I said, he was a pretty good player.

AJ or J8 i dont know what kind of player he is to say that he'd raise preflop with J8 though so my best guess would be AJ.

I'm guessing Ace/King. That would mean that the raise pre-flop was legitimate, the flop bet was a standard continuation bet, and then he said he had the straight to try and intimidate you so that he could bluff at it. Ego players love trying to intimidate you... so he's got sh*t and is just trying to bluff. A/K.
