I just read Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?, a collection of short stories by Raymond Carver. Anyone read his stuff? Awesome.

How about a sample?

Here I was thinking that this thread would be all about some good shutting the fuck up.

So disappointed.

Anything by Carver is great. Too bad he died so young.

Alas, I hoped for the same. Unfortunately this will inevitably turn into a smug-off between dutch and bigd, as is the result of 95% of the threads started by either one.

I've read "Cathedral," and "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love," both collections of short stories. He's amazing.

I need those. I just "found" him. Which one would you recommend?

McGee always seemed likely to take his own life. I imagine that's what happened. Still, I pray for his return every day.

Hahahahahahahahaahahahahahahaha.

What would happen if MK, McGee, and Dutch all had a humble-off? World explode?

Both. I read Cathedral years ago, and What We Talk About....just this year, so that one's fresher in my mind. They're both great collections though. If you're only gonna get one, get the second one, just because I don't know anybody who's read it and I'd like to hear what you think.

I don't know why, but I felt compelled to check this guy out. I just bought Where I'm Calling From, and I'm gonna start reading it tonight.

I pretty much get all of my reading recommendations from a poker website..... pathetic.

I agree, What we Talk About is a great collection, probably his best. I have a signed copy I believe. My wife got me into him some 10 yrs ago. If you like him I also suggest checking out Tobias Wolfe's short story collections as well.
