I just watched Hotel Rwanda for what i am ashamed to say, my first time.

I am a big believer in stopping the genocide in Darfur (savedarfur.org) and I am a big believer in educating people about the horrors of genocide.

Anyways I can't believe I hadn't seen Hotel Rwanda before this becuase it was amzing. The movie was absolutly great and it deserved all of the awards it won.

I think the best scene was when Paul was trying to tie his tie, and he just lost it. Anyways, the movie was spectacular and I think it was a good representaion of what happened in 1994.

You should see Blood Diamond. Another great movie with the issue of genocide.

Also check out an HBO original called Sometimes in April. It deals not just with the genocide in Rwanda but life afterwards.

Joking. It was a dumb joke. If you hung out with me, that would happen alot. I had an idea one time to reshoot The Color Purple, but with white people in blackface, for a little comedic spin.

well, most people say that they would like to stop the genocide but the do absolutley NOTHING about it. i however, do things to try to prevent it, from raising/sending money, writing letters to senators and attending the rally in DC

Sorry...

Actually, I saw Hotel Rwanda a few months ago and I ended up being so ashamed of the human race, I wanted to die, but I realised dying wasn't the answer. Information is the key. Communicating that information is the key. There is more than one key. Do not be afraid to stand up for what you beleive in and fight for the truth. Please be objective and leave your self-serving interests at the door. We're talking abuot the human race. Does it really matter who prays to what God? We are all here together. Let's be decent, kind, forgiving and learn to live with one another. Please. That is all. For now.

If only everyone thought like this, the world would be better, but unfotunatley it is not.

The Rwandan genodice especially makes me think of this. During the holocaust, the Nazis killed the Jews becuase they were Jewish and had different beliefs. Although i can never see how this is an excuse to kill 6 million innocent people.
However during the Rwandan Genocide it was different. The Hutu were killing the Tutsi but there is no difference between these two. If my memory serves me right, when Belgium made Rwanda independent, they randomly made some people Hutu and some Tutsi. They believe in the same thing and there are a couple of differences in appearence (heigh, skin color) but this isn't always true. So this genocide is particularly troublesome because the Jews and the Nazis were very different but the Hutu and the Tutsi were pretty much the same.

The Nazis also killed many gypsies, known homosexuals and all kinds of artists for having views that didn't conform to their socialist ideals. The Jews bore the brunt of it and there were plenty of people on "our side" who knoew about it before it became a news issue. For example, IBM had punchcard computation devices installed in many of the camps, which the Nazis used to keep stats on what they were doing. These machines required service calls on a monthly basis (contracted), so outside people had to come to the camps and there's no way they could avoid the stench of death. Business concerns were such that they didn't want to rock the boat, however. Hooray for money.

I want to read this book but I hate reading. I think one of my New Years resolutions wil be to not be lazy and read it because his life is truly amazing.
