HBO is doing a new 1 hour series based on the comic Preacher.

Considering the content, it's the only channel where this series could even be attempted to be pulled off. Some interesting quotes from an interview with Mark Steven Johnson who will be the executive producer and writer of the pilot for the series.

Looks like if he follows through with his plan of it being a 1 episode per comic show then were looking at around a 6 season show.

QUOTE
Will the Preacher episodes be rated MA?

I think so. If there's a higher one we don't know about, it will be that.

For those that don't know what Preacher is about, here is a brief summary taken from another article.

QUOTE
Preacher centers on a Texas holy man named Jesse Custer, who is possessed by a supernatural entity that is half angel and half demon. Given immense powers, Jesse sets out on a journey to find God—who has fled from heaven—and hold him accountable for his actions.

"He can do whatever he wants with that power," Johnson said. "And instead he says, 'You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to find God. And I'm going to make him pay. I want God to answer for everything he's done to people.' I think that's really honorable. ... God gets scared, and he leaves heaven because Jesse's so powerful. Jesse says, 'You know what? I'm going to find God. And I don't care how long it takes. And I want to make God give an answer to everybody and say why you've deserted your people.' It's honorable."

It's going to be funny if the people in the religion forums tune in, I expect boycotting and protests of HBO.

my brother is a big fan of the series. I never got into it but I have read a couple comics. maybe I'll try reading it again before it comes out on dvd which should give me a lot of time. I didn't see anything about when it is supposed to come out, so I suppose we won't see it 'till next fall?

my favourite part of the interview

sorry to stray but it'd be cool if Top 10 was made into a movie or something.

I hope this increases the value of Preacher #1. icon_dance.gif

And I hope it inspires HBO to make series of other comic series. Ideally they'd pick up Watchmen after they shelf the movie.

I would love to see the Watchmen as a mini series, that would be amazing. I never thought it would make a good 2 hour movie.
However, I think the.. window for making Watchman has closed, in many ways, in subject matter and affect on comics, mainstream and indepentant, is every 1980's, and should have been made in the 80's. I'm sure they could update it now, but it won't be the same.. It's a very cold war story.

MeGee, you're right, I think The Watchman would fail horribly as a 2 hour movie. Even VfV, which was seemingly ideal for maybe a 150minute movie, and was almost cinematic as a graphic – and I even liked it as an action movie – was just too short and watered down to share the name. As much as I did like it (damn I knew that that would turn into this), more than anything I wanted to hate it because of the annoying press surrounding it; pretending that it contained new and challenging ideas. More than anything, though, I was pissed off that almost ever idiot covering the release of the movie and it's brave new concepts acted like it might NOT be okay to use force to overthrow an oppressive government... and THEY'RE talking about a full-on fascist dictatorship.

Well there you go, Dutch somehow goes from "this just couldn't work in two hours," to semi-political rant.

I did think that V is for Vendetta took the teeth out of the pro-anarchy theme of the comic, but that isn't really a surprise.

What was a surprise was how hot portman was with a shaved head. I bet her lesbian lovers just loved the look.

DO NOT get me started again. My obsession there is like a serious, time consuming problem.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. (But I agree, to a point, with BigD and Dizzle)
