It might sound far fetched with Malkin out there , however Penner is having a phenomenal rookie campaign..Only 2 goals behind Malkin...An injury or something weird and Penner is right there...

Just to show that Draft picks are useless..Dustin Penner was a pickup last year...

Thats right a pick up...

You conveniently left out the fact that it wasn't a pick up by you.

And he's not eligible for the Calder.

Malkin's injury would have to be a car accident that also eliminated Wolski, Kopitar, Stastny, and Matt Carle. Penner is certainly a blue chipper, but he also benefits greatly from playing on a phenomenal team.
I'd say he doesn't even get nominated at this point....

I say he is better the 4 you mention and obviously not as good as Malkin..He will score close to 30 goals...guarenteed nominated

I really hope Pavelski scores a 3rd period hat-trick.

Zajac has a better shot than Penner, and Zajac has no shot.

kopitar is a 19 year old putting up nearly a point per game on a bad kings team.

penner is a 24 year old benefitting from being on an exceptional team.

i'd take kopitar over penner every team.
Vertigo
Malkin will take it hands down, providing he isn't injured.

So when they are picking rookie of the year do you think they look at the players age and the strength of his team..WRONG...they dont..

the fact that he is 19 years old means that he wont finish strong...I guarantee it...Penner is a much better player than all rookie candidates except for Malkin

Actually if Penner was on Gothic or Thieves or Blackdraft he would be just another prospect who is getting very lucky riding shotgun on an exceptional team and this thread wouldn't even exist. You know it.

Serge, I'm willing to put up $100 that Backstrom will score 70 points (minimum) in one of the next three nhl seasons (07/08, 08/09, or 09/10) PLUS Sanguinetti will put up at least 35 points in that same time period... as prospects are crapshoots, would you be willing to take that bet?

Blackdraft and exception team in the same sentence - um - no.
Jason12
and if you look at the top rookies thead before the year ud see that i called him being nominated hasnt got there yet but hes on pace....and just because hes on a good team doesnt mean that should take away from how good hes playing since hes on a good team hes not playing with the top players like wolski malkin and kopitar ,for the same reason he gets less ice time

The exceptional team referred to Anaheim. His point was Penner is a product of his circumstances, playing in Columbus he would have 5g4a.

If Penner was on my team he would be 4th on my futures depth chart behind Backstrom, Zajac, and Sanguinetti (in term of potential AHL worth). A guy like Eriksson might even be better than him long-term.

Darryl, might your quickness to defend serge and put-down my strategy be a product of the fact that you're farm team is almost as abysmal as Serge's? Serge told me you and him had a good chat about how dumb it is that I have so many picks, and I'm starting to see why.

Sure Lee is a decent prospect, but after that one would think this is a European pool with the number of guys you have playing in Finland and Sweden. You don't have one top end prospect, and Klepis makes Kris Beech look like an offensive all-star.

You've got some good young guys on your current roster, but your team doesn't stack up to Tony's or Bob's (and their farm system is still pretty stocked)... I think there's a chance, not extraordinarly large mind you, that I'll be seeing an AHL championship before you. If you gave me 1.75:1 odds or so on me winning a championship before you I might be willing to put some money on that (not a lot, mind you, I am a student).

Isn't an injury the reason he is right there to begin with? huh.gif

It's a bit silly to say his production is the benefit of being on a good team when he plays with Marchant and Shawn Thornton currently with little Power play time and Carlyle playing the Andy Mac and Pahlsson lines a helluva lot during 5-5. Meh....and yeah he's Calder eligible for certain.

That being said it should be a good race till the end for this bet of yours. 20-25 goals is probably where he'll end up. glglglglglglglglglglgl

Your arguments are again flawed...Saying Penner plays on a good team...How about the fact that Malkin plays on the PP with arguably the best player in the league...What if he played on Columbus...Big deal..Penner is a star , deal with it.>I will definetely take the Backstrom bet that he wont 70pts the in any of the next 3 years...including next year we start...You set the amount

Not saying Penner will win the Calder but he will definetely be in the running...

Something else to consider..Penner has played over 75 games last two years while Malkin has never played more than 52 games in Russia...Not saying it can happen but a lot of the Russians arent used to the long schedule....

Kopitar as well....If you look at Kopitar's production it has fallen off significantly from the beginning part of the year
