Ok, I found this to be an interesting hand because most people would call here to build a bigger pot. I don't know what the #s are but I'm probably slightly ahead of tp here.

Now, utg in his position is going to bet most of the time to try and take down the pot
Now sb's range here is usually either tp or a pair of 8s - QK some ppl raise pf but with his stat doubtful. He def. doesn't have AK. But with his check-raise, he's probably going to knock off utg if the guy was just bluffing.

I felt that the correct play here is to 3bet and play it off like I have a set, which is def. possible, especially when I check-raise 3bet in a multiway pot.

Now, would you do this with either an FD or straight draw? Or would you play it more passively? I haven't played a hand like this before and I'll definitely keep it in mind for later

Also, would you rather take cobalt's line and build up the pot multiway since we're ahead of all hands that aren't fd, 2p, or set (I assume)? Or better to take it down now?

I don't hate the move, but I think it's FPSy. I'm usually just going to go ahead and lead at this flop. If it gets folded, good semi-bluff. If it gets called or raised, we're building a nice pot.

I agree with cobalt about betting it but if you do check and get a raise back to you then I feel you may as well reraise. Checking and then callin 2 cold doesn't necesarilly seem less threating than rereaising to observant opponents.
TheCinciKid
Like Cobalt I much prefer going ahead and leading out on the flop. If it gets raised I really have no problem 3-betting either.

I always lead this flop...

... because I don't believe this is true.
UTG limped preflop instead of trying to take down the pot then.
I see no reason to assume he is going to make a stab at it now.

My AP is 5.5, and in this situation I don't always try to take it down either.

I would hate to see the flop checked through and waste all my equity.

i beg to differ. Last person to act, at least in the games I've played, bet that flop 90% of the time.

My original plan was to check-raise utg and take initiative. The sb surprised me and I decided a 3bet would be the best play to take down the pot.

I'd still like your guys' thoughts on

I agree. Last person to act bets a huge portion of the time in these donk-filled games. Seriously. I haven't played a ton of SHLHE lately, and I even noticed that.

Anyways, when I played it, I still just lead the flop, and hope to 3-bet, but meh.

As played, you can easily put utg on a steal bet, and SB on putting him on a steal, and re-steal raising, so we can 3-bet to gain control of the hand, AND we have a HUGE edge here in terms of equity, so we make money 3-betting, even if this is HU, even if sb has a hand.

If sb doesn't have a hand, we can take it down UI on the turn, or even on the flop if he folds to the 3-bet.

If he does have a hand, then we have a million outs to improve.

As for your 2nd question, I have no idea what's better, building, or taking it down. That would involve some crazy EV calc that I wouldn't even know where to start on.
