Full Version: Feeling A Draft?
FCP Poker Forum > Off Topic Forums > General
Pot Odds RAC
In 2004 Representative Charles Rangel tried to sponsor a bill that would reintroduce the Draft in the United States. The vote against the Bill was 402-2. Representative Rangel is again drafting legislation to reinstate the Draft to restore mandatory Military Service.

Where is the outrage?

How can we sit by and let the Republicans get away with further assaults on the rights, liberties, of every American?

The Bush administration in an effort to make a political point is just going too far this time.

...this just in...

...Representative Rangel is a Democrat from New york.

Apparently actions like these are not subject to the same Media induced outrage if they are sponsored by a Liberal.

Now that the Liberals control both the Senate and Congress, there is a much better possibilitiy for this radical's actions to gain traction. But I guess since it isn't the "Conservatives" toying with our rights, everything is OK.

At least he isn't going after on-line gaming.

Clearly my post should have SW stamped all over it.

So because "It'll never happen" it is ok to play these political games as long as it is a Democrat messing around?

It's like getting outraged over the possibility of an invasion from Mars while we stand by and do nothing to prevent it.

This country will never see a draft again, because the US military doesn't fight the same way it did when the draft was in place. Soldiers that are nothing more than warm live bodies that can draw fire and shoot back are useless in todays military, they're looking for intelligent, dedicated, and above all, well trained people.

Stop rousing rabble. You clearly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I didn't even get past the subject line. It just sounded stupid to me, and I don't really care who plays what games. I gave up on my tax dollars long ago.

He's making a point about how the military is overly spread and wouldn't be able to sustain another conflict/war/disaster. He's making a point that one can't be for the war in Iraq if one isn't willing to actually get enough troops to win the war. He's making the point that American may have thought twice before going to war if it were the case that the people who supported the war would actually have to fight in it (not to say that there aren't those who both support the war and fight in it, but there are many and I would venture to say the majority who supported the way who would not have supported it if either they or their sons would be forced to fight in it).

He's making a point. Relax, it's not going to happen.

There is a differenct between me having no idea what I am talking about and you not understanding/accepting it.

I just find it amazing that people will get their panties all bunched up over on-line gaming legislation. Knee jerk react against the "Bush Administration". But just ho-hum accept political gamesmanship regarding a Draft.

That is my point. He is horsing around as a demagogue using a "Draft" and War as emotional triggers to gain political advantage. Pretty sickening. But I hate Demagogues of any Political affiliation.

Well, let's see. Online gaming legislation was a needless breach on the freedom of Americans. And, it actually passed. The issue at hand is a gesture that will never pass.

Are you really so simple minded that you can't see the differences between the two, or do you actually think that there is something to your argument?

Shockingly, it is possible to be for certain things and against others, especially when those things may have nothing to do with one another.

So essentially you have no point or plan on the matter, you just wanted to spark discussion that would basically go nowhere?

Carry on then....

Shuddup. I just read the whole post, and I still don't care. There's not a whole lot of difference between the two parties anyway, and I don't know why anyone would have an alliegance to one or the other.

There's a thread about demagogues and their supporters (in this case Liberals) blindly accepting their actions because of their party affiliation?

God forbid if someone were to play Provacateur to spark some debate. Never happens on the Internet nor specifically this site.

For the record, I think what he's doing is stupid, and I don't blindly support it.

It's not like we all don't know what you're doing, anyway.

Frankly, if this is the worse that you can pin on the Democrats, then I'm pretty content.

The reason I never take anything you say seriously is that everytime I see you post on OT about politics, you always have to throw some weak insult against someone who doesn't "agree" with you. I find people who argue like that worthless. Learn to debate like an adult and people will give your posts and thoughts much more credence. i.e. stop being a fag

Dude.

I was responding to his "attack" on me calling me "Simple Minded". I don't think I have ever resorted to tossing out a first insult on this site.

Seriously, I could be wrong, but I don't think so in this case. I tend to find it laughable how the kids on this site insult each other, say by calling people "fags".

The fag part was a joke. An Ironic one. Which I didn't expect you to get.

Kid? lol. That was pretty weak if you were trying to insult me. Oh how I would love to be a kid again. Thanks!

I figured it was a joke but I can see where you'd assume that I would miss your irony since you missed mine in my "simple mind" post.

Being a kid is a state of mind.

Here's the formula:

Black + Liberal + Democrat = immune to being ripped by major media. If a white conservative Republican came out pro draft, all hell would break loose

Or people would write him off as either making a statement, or just somewhat of a loon.

Coincidentally, this is what has happened here

You know what's even funnier about this whole thing?

Congressman Rangel voted against the bill too!

Reading this article will only serve to make the OP seem more out of touch with his own rant, so read at your own risk...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...9-2004Oct5.html

In summary, the bill was placed on the floor for a vote by THE REPUBLICANS to get the point across that only the Democrats have ever even considered drawing up such a bill.

*Edit* The article is about the 2004 bill, not the latest incarnation, but the point still stands. Just wanted to make that clear.

I'm not going to bother reading this. I'm sure it's liberal media BS anyway. You're obviously missing the point. Many Democrats were against a ban on online poker, and yet when they take office this happens. Don't you see the hypocrisy?

The issue is cut and dry, and reading into the actual facts behind it only serves to blur my conclusion and make me seem like I’m wasting everybody’s time with my lack of a point.

My head assplode.

I have literally no idea what you just said. I must have read your post 10 times, then left the thread and come back to it, and tried to respond, and then stared at it some more.

The one thing I've come to realize in all of this is that I don't care enough about politics to even playfully argue about them on a poker forum.
