Doubtful. It's harder than you think to repeal laws that have already been approved.

A draft won't happen anytime soon either. Like the article said, polls show most Americans don't favor it.

Good luck.

There's not going to be a draft, though when Korea starts nuking us we'll wish there had been one, or at least that we didn't have so many people acting as professional targets in Iraq.

For one thing, N. Korea does not have the balls to nuke anyone. They're trying to get into a penis swinging match, and get the whole world scared to death that we're on the verge of a nuclear holocaust so that they can get aid for its citizens, WHICH wouldn't even be necessary if they would decide not to be the only completely backward communist nation left and open its doors to global commerce.

They're trying to start another Cold War, there won't be any launching of nukes from Pyongyang. Yes, they've had a successful test, but that does not mean they're even remotely close to being ready to launch.

Yeah, I was somewhat kidding about them actually nuking us.

LOL, N. Korea can barely hook up a remidial bomb to a car battery and blow it up underground, they're years away (probably never) from being able to use an ICBM and it would be near impossible (probably literally impossible) to get a bomber over US soil.

Even if they (or someone else) did launch an ICBM at us, I'm convinced that our missile shield technology is much farther along than the goverment would like the rest of the world to believe.

Dr. Strangelove: Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine is lost, if you *keep* it a *secret*! Why didn't you tell the world, EH?
Ambassador de Sadesky: It was to be announced at the Party Congress on Monday. As you know, the Premier loves surprises.

I'm kinda dumb, so I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me or disagreeing.

I think it's the latter, so IMO:

Nuclear Weapons only real purpose these days is to serve as a deterrent from nuclear war, no world leader in his right mind would ever use one knowing full well that his own country would be annihilated as a result.

If it was widely known that the missile shield can stop anything short of a total unleashing of every missile in Russia and Chinas arsenals, it might give certain world leaders the idea that they could make a pretty strong statement by touching one of those bad boys off in our direction (akin to "Taking a shot across the bow" so to speak.

It's like the morons who shoot at the White House windows from time to time. They know the bulletproof glass is going to stop anything short of a tank shell, but it still gets their name in the papers.

In my further opinion, our goverment isn't in the habit of announcing and publicizing its own failures (especially the military ones), so the fact that the "failures" of the missile shield have been so widely publicized is suspicious to say the least.

Taking a shot across the bow
Yeah, the quote isn't a perfect match, really, since the doomsday machine is just perfectly guaranteed MAD, and not a defense mechanism. I just wanted to quote it because it's one of my favouritist movies of all time. Your example is well put.
