Last night I was playing a live cash game (5/5PL) and lost a pretty big hand.. Opinions of other ways away from this hand are appreciated:


Situation: I'm on the button and dealt AsJs8d2h


Preflop raised to $15, 5 callers, I obviously call..

Total Pot: $90..

Flop comes 8s2s4d

Checked to the person on my right who bets pot. I re-raise pot which leaves me with about $150 in front of me. Person to my right who has a large stack (about 3k plays fairly agressive) thinks and calls..

Turn comes Jh..

He checks, I push all in for my last $150 and he obviously calls as the pot is now over 1k..

River comes a blank and I miss my nut flush, full-house.. Guy to my right shows a set of 4's and takes it all...


How can I get away from flopping two pair with a nut draw!!! Any help appreciated.. I figure even if I call the flop, it's all going in on the turn anyways

On the button, probably. It's kind of a trash hand, but position is nice.

I think the flop is as good as you can hope for, and I like the line you take, and I think if you're goign to play that hand preflop, once you get that flop, you have to get your money in the middle.

But even with position, I question playing a hand that's so disconnected with one flush draw preflop.

Only way you can play this better is to actually hit, nh.

I'd probably toss this preflop too. The suited ace isn't going to win you a big pot by itself, and this hand literally has nothing else going for it. You need at least some semblance of connectedness here.

Actually, I hadn't noticed that we only have $165 to start. I toss preflop. I don't mind calling with deep stacks though.

He had more than that, he called $15 preflop, then there was a pot bet on the flop, and he repotted, so that means he had raised to 360, and then 150 behind, so he was sitting with a bit over $500 preflop, if I'm calculating correctly.

Me read bad. In light of this revelation, me call preflop.

I was thinking the same thing about not even calling preflop, i mean it was raised to 15, then called how many ways? 3 or 4? makes it a juicy pot, but something I would want to go after with a stronger ace, and not just a flush potential (i'm talking preflop)

I honestly wouldn't even think of calling this pre. or repotting post because you know you are up against a set...if you are going to pot and leave yourself behind 150, there is no way he's going to fold on the river no matter what comes (IMO). So why even bother getting yourself in so deep with just a flush draw (i say because you have to assume you are up against a set)? I might be babbling, but i think it's possible to get away from this hand before flop and maybe even after flop

I will put a caveat in that ISAPEPLO so meh
