Full Version: Playing With An M Of 1000

Tonight played in a friendly SnG, blinds were 10/20, didn't rise ever. Stacks are:
-25 white (10) - 250
-25 green (20) - 500
-15 blue (50) - 750
-15 red (75) - 1125
-15 black (100) - 1500
-15 purple (250) - 3750
-15 grey (500) - 7500
-15 orange (1000) - 15000

I wasn't taking it too seriously (just a game among friends, barely any money involved).

This put our M at over 1000. Is it a mistake to fold any hand in any position in this format? I'm curious as to the strategic changes brought on with stacks this deep (including cash games w/ these deep of stacks)

Just play like a deepstacked cash game, because that is essentially what it is.

I wouldn't play any 2, but I mean, if they are bad enough to pay you off in any situation, then the odds are there, but if they won't then the implied odds will be smaller, even if they are deep.

How long did it last? Must have been days.

Thanks Zach

We had a time limit on it, and whoever had the most chips by the end wins, so only took 3.5 hours

I would play any suited cards, and two gappers, and single gappers. I would basically play everything except J4o in the small blinds. You will spend a lot of time check folding on the flop but it is funnnnn.

Also another important point is that you would prefer a game is passive, so it is easier to hit your draws.

Thanks!

Since it was for fun, and big raises were rare preflop (bets didn't start getting big until turn), I just ended up limping blind every single hand unless there was a raise preflop lol

That sounds stupid to me. The winner will be determined by the last hand of the game.

For example, pretend you're in first place in chips in the BB. The time is almost up and this will be your last hand. All of the players acting before you will go all in and then you'll have to call because the pot will be bigger than your stack. In this situation, everyone is playing optimally.

Good point. I was trying to thing of a good strategy for this (with regard to the time limit), but I kept thinking I was missing something fundamental.

Yeah Time limit won't work for tournaments. We have tried it for our home games and it's a disaster. And EXACTLY what Sluggo said happened - the result is determined by the last hand of the tourney because the short-stack has to go all-in otherwise they are winning nothing anyways. and then the medium stacks are forced to go all-in because if the any of those small stacks won they would have been overtaken. Subsequently all players are forced to go all-in. This will happen unless the chip leader amassed more than half the chips in play or close to it but it rarely happens. So we stopped playing tournament and switched to cash games.

You could try a blind structure. That tends to work well.

We had a blind structure, but people still think it takes too long and want to limit the time.

if they think it takes to long, then make the amount of chips on the table less, and increase the blinds faster
