Did I serve? No.

Why not? You seem so pro war

Would it break my heart if a close friend or family member was killed by friendly fire? yes.

Would I then blame the Republicans or blame everyone in positions of authority? Nope.

Oh, you would just say "cest la vi, war is hell" and move on? doubtful

You claim it is "a war we shouldn't be involved in" I do not share your point of view on that.

don't share my viewpoint? Then enlist? What is stopping you?

thanks for helping my points.

Declarations about who is more important or who everyone should bow down to as a hero are so subjective, eh?

Honestly not sure, but tend to be against. If I didn't think it was more about $ than love, I'd be all for it. I think I am more against "marriage" and "children" benefits in general, even though I am married.

5 Firefighters were killed last week in California. I mourn their loss. I think firefighters are heroes too.

Have I volunteered to be a firefighter? Nope.

Do I think we should stop fighting fires? No.

The views of the people who feel that the Iraq War is for "bogus reasons" do not really concern me. The sacrifice of those lost is not "needless".

ok

what about if someone lies about a fire inside of a building, firefighters go in, three of them trip down the stairs and break their necks and die.

Should the person who called in the fake fire be elected president?

your right though, our intelligence wasnt off and our leaders didn't lie, our President didn't have a hard on for Iraq like Richard Clarke said he did and we didn't invade the wrong country and all of the hijackers weren't Saudi.

you sir, are way off.

they released numbers recently in which over 650,000 iraqis have died. About 2% of the population.

My unit alone killed 12-15,000 Iraqis the first night of the war, and 42-55,000 throughout the war. But I was heavy artillery. And BDA is sometimes skewed.

I was talking civilians, not soldiers. I'm hoping that you were talking total and that you didn't kill 15,000 civilians on the first night. I would consider that bad.

Do you think that soldiers from WWII thought it was a good war and wanted to be in someone elses country fighting someone elses war? But you would think twice about it because it was claimed as a worthwile war.

I think the soldiers of World War II did and still do think it was a just war and were very happy to make the sacrifice to enlist, be shipped over to Europe or the Pacific, and fight for their country. If the Japanese were bombing us and Hitler was destroying Europe, I'd fight too. Personally, I would only fight in a war that I believed in. I would only fight to save lives and livelihoods.

I think it is evident by the current recruitment levels that many people hold similar philosophies about what wars they would choose to fight in. I know that I wouldn't give my life, or my brother's life, or my son's life (if I had one) or my neighbor's life for this war right now. And it seems that many people agree with me and are not choosing to give up their own to enlist. This was not the case during WWII.

I don't believe that those who personally believe in this war and are fighting in it are stupid or bad people, though I believe they're wrong. I have great sympathy for people (like yourself it seems) who enlisted before this whole mess began and were forced to fight for something that they may or may not believe in. I don't think the people who aren't enlisting right now are cowards, and I agree with their decision (as evidenced by the fact that I'm not right now in Iraq).

Saw some comparisons to WWII in this thread and thought I'd give my two cents. Although the nazi's were complete scum, they did fight as an army and honored a lot of military code. They fought in uniform, they allowed letters to reach and leave POW's (not the Jews of course, but Allied POW's were allowed mail at most camps), they avoided attacking medics.

Our current enemies in Iraq do none of these things. It makes the situation much more difficult for all involved and makes the comparison of the two fairly laughable. Apples to oranges.

So you think he is a hero because he is fighting to stop terrorism?
Do the people living in Iraq think Pat Tillman is a hero? I doubt it

Why would people in Iraq think Pat Tillman is a hero? He never set foot there, you dimwit.

It's so fucking funny to me that you Canadians maintain this farce of a moral high ground when it's very apparent that the US is damned if we're Imperialists and damned if we're Isolationists.

I'm not going to argue with anyone about this; anyone who gives their life in an effort to hopefully ensure freedom for another is heroic to a degree, no matter the color of their skin, their creed, their ethnicity or their nationality.

Quite frankly, mocking any of their deaths is morally repugnant--Iraqi, Canadian(was that a joke btw? How many Canadians have been killed by Americans, Royal?), American, Afghani, whatever.
