I was playing a home game with three of my buds. Sorta for fun, but we like to win.

This is the hand:

I was preflop with 89 off. I kept because I was in the BB.

First person called, then the button called, and SB folded, I checked.

Flop comes 7 J Q rainbow. I have a straight draw. It's now a high % draw, I know, so I check. Both behind me check.

Turn comes 6. So now I have more outs. So because of their checks, I bet about the pot. First calls and the button folds.

River comes 3. The guy isn't great at poker, which is where I made my mistake. So I bluffed all-in. He seemed weak the whole time. I had him covered easily, and I thought he would fold.

He immediately called. I was like dang...

He showed me pair of 7s. I was like WTF!?!?!

I know he is pretty bad, because he calls with 10 high sometimes, lol.

Was it a bad play by me, or was he just a bad player and it couldn't be helped?

I showed strength by betting on the semi bluff and then all in. Why would he call immediately with like middle pair. Then again, he doesn't know middle pair, positions, bluffing, so on, so on.

It just makes me mad, because I think a good player would have maybe out thought theirselves. Two overs and the draws.....

You bluffed the wrong guy.

Sam Farha said at the 2003 series that he didn't need a hand against a great player, but against a bad player he needs a hand

You can't bluff someone who can't put you on a hand

a friend just reminded me he had two pair, 7s and Js.

so maybe it was a little more favorable for him to call, but still...

oh well.
