Full Version: Bob, I'm About To Throw In The Towel..

You and I have corresponded several times about how the FCP client freezes on me at random times. Last week several times during cash games it locked up to the point where I was kicked off the table. Well, tonight during the Neg-O may be the last straw...

The system never came back. I had to quit FCP (which took some effort), restart it, at which point it said it could not resolve the FCP server. When it finally did come back I was down to 2800 chips (with the blinds at 1200) and I was out in 3 hands....

Interesting for you to know that during this "outage", I was able to otherwise surf the net, and I was also in a tournament on PokerStars that was unaffected.

OnGame has serious performance and functionality issues.

That seriously sucks man. You were rocking the tourney too. Gotta be frustrating to the extreme.

I will say that FCP locks up on me also and it seems to happen more when I have a Stars table open, whether playing or railing.

When it locks up, I have to force the software to close and I get an unrecoverable error message.

I however, am not done with FCP.

if you're going to photoshop, at least use cards from the right site.

the point stands, though. ongame has been utter trash of late and i've stopped playing there until things get fixed.

Hi Monix, I'll send you a PM about your specific situation.

I want to bring up some general troubleshooting things that players can do that may help with some of these issues.

If you notice that when you have logged into the software that there is an update and you are having problems shortly afterwards it's possible that the update didn't install properly on your computer and you'll need to uninstall and then reinstall the software. This is also something that you should try if you're having problems even if you didn't notice that there was an update.

1. Uninstall the FCP software.
2. Make sure all your Window's Updates are current. If your Window's Updates aren't current and installed this can sometimes cause issues with the software as well as leaving you vulnerable to the issues that the updates were put out to fix.
3. Reinstall the FCP software.

When players talk about a table freezing on them what is usually happening is that there has been a lag in their connection to the game and they are no longer connected to that game. The table appears to be frozen to them but the reality is that they have been disconnected and will have to close the table and maybe even relog into the software. The Java version of the software handles these situations better then the download in my experience.

There can be many different things that can cause you to lose connection to a game while you'll still be connected to the internet and using other internet applications.

Often the cause of the disconnection is related to the other things that are happening on your computer. I'm not trying to blame the player but explain why these things may be happening for some players and how the software handles certain things.

Theresa mentioned that when she goes to My Space that she has problems with the disconnections. This makes sense as many My Space pages are filled with streaming video and audio files that are resource intensive and that can cause the momentary lag from the game that then "freezes" the table.

Any resource intensive activity that you're doing on your computer or the internet at the same time that you're in a game has the potential to cause a problem. In my own experience when my Norton Anti Virus automatically downloads and installs an update this causes a problem as an example.

If you're having problems please contact our support department and give us as much detail as possible and we can try and figure out why you're experiencing the problem and if there might be a solution.

I use the "Big Card Symbols (4 -Color Deck)" option under Options > Table tab.

I look forward to your apology for accusing me of deception.

Bob, as always I appreciate your prompt, patient and courteous service. Without that I would have left long ago.

The bigger issue is the responsiveness that OnGame provides FCP as their customer. The OnGame client is bloated and poorly executed. For example, they use a database approach to hand histories in an attempt to provide additional functionality in analysis. However:

1) HH reporting capability (what is stored on the local hard drive) is less than that provided by the other major sites,
2) The analysis provided is lame and redundant as I suspect that virtually anyone who reviews their HH’s use a third party analysis tool such as Poker Tracker.

While I agree that the disconnection and contention for the same bandwidth is at the root of these issues, the other sites have “lighter” applications that put fewer demands on the system and bandwidth and have more robust reconnection routines.

I love the FCP Forum, the community, but the OnGame environment makes it tough to play on FCP.

Sorry to have to say this, but if any resource intensive activity like the aforementioned use of myspace, or Norton Anti Virus, or in my case AIM, causes a player to be disconnected from a game, that is a problem with the OnGame network/software and the way it is designed. Every other poker site's software that I have used has no problems running smoothly, even if I am surfing myspace, chatting on AIM, listening to music, sending emails and downloading videos all at the same time.

As monix said, "other sites have “lighter” applications that put fewer demands on the system and bandwidth and have more robust reconnection routines."

Can FCP please move to another network now?

I'm sorry, but if players can't DL resource intensive(ie. porn) stuff then ongame is gonna lose a whole lotta customers. tongue.gif

FCP provides the best support possible given the circumstances. The FCP community and leagues are fantastic. These are the only two reasons I have E-money on the site.

I could make a large wish list of things that I would like to see changed, but I know it's out of FCP hands and up to ongame to make the changes.
