He's been a huge part of the Bruins success this year, so that sucks.

both for me.
I read an book on him a couple of years, gave me a whole new appreciation for the man as well as the player. He is no saint, but I respected him a ton all the same.
It's sick to think of what he was, and what he could have been for so much longer. And really, all it would have taken is the same technology they have had now the last 10-15 years.

Congrats to Matt Hunwick for scoring his firs NHL goal. He was overshadowed at Michigan being paired with Johnson, but hopefully he can take advantage of Bruins defensive injuries and impress the coaching staff.

He's already impressed the coaches, no worries there. It was just tough for him while the Bruins had 7 healthy defencemen and winning every game, so they didn't want to make lineup changes.

The yellow 'thing' on the wingtip? It's to stop air disturbances from rolling off of the end of the wing -- which means the air can flow unimpeded over the wing; which leads to more lift, etc.

Tonight is the Bruins first Friday night home game since 1977, the same year Slap Shot was released.
Steve Carlson (Steve Hanson) was head coach of the Bruins Johnstown affiliate from 1988 to 1992.
Slap Shot won the 1977 Hochi Award in Japan for Best Foreign Language Film.
Al Pacino was interested in playing Paul Newman's character, Reggie Dunlop, but was not offered the part because he couldn't skate.
Yvon Barrette (Chiefs goalie Denis Lemieux) badly injured his knee during early filming. Instead of replacing him, Director George Roy Hill postponed all of Barrette's scenes until he healed.
Nick Nolte lobbied for the part of Ned Braden, but his schedule did not allow enough time for him to learn to skate before filming.
The Federal League trophy hoisted by the Chiefs at the end of Slap Shot currently resides in the basement of one of the film's extras... as a flower pot.

Tried to wiggle myself some tickets for tonight's game, looks like that won't be happening as I can't get out of school early enough. I would have loved a pair of those glasses they're giving away. Either way, tonight I am a Florida Panthers fan so I'll cringe my way through the game and hope we score 2 goals.

First, I am actually quite surprised at how much I like the Bruins new 3rds. They didn't look great from the pictures, but seeing them on the ice, I think they're pretty sweet.
Second, I am just in awe of how much Kessel has grown as a player so early in the season. This kid is a superstar! I had been skeptical of Phil even with the goals for a while, because he just seemed like a one dimensional player that could only shoot. His passing was atrocious, often passing when he should have shot, or shooting when he should have passed, and a lot of his passes were giveaways because they were awful.
These days his passing has gotten a lot better, he's using his speed/stickhandling skills much more, and playing with Savard definately helps, but they are getting tons of chances together.
I just hope this kind of play continues from him, and I could see him getting 100 points next season.

I'd love to hear some other opinions on Kessel. Im looking to trade for him in a fantasy league as a keeper (NOT the FCHL), and Im wondering do others agree? I never saw him as 100pt potential, I have a hard time seeing 70 from this guy, but in all honesty, I havent watched much Bruins action this year.
What would you say his points range is for next year?

He's been really impressive every time I've watched the Bruins, but hell, everyone on the ice has been. I think he benefits a lot from playing with Savard, who is probably in the top 2 or 3 in terms of set-up guys in the NHL. He's got a wicked shot, and can dance with the puck. I have no idea how high his potential for points could be, but it's certainly going to be higher with Savard than without.

2 goals for Kessel tonight, though one was an empty netter

Krejci's goal was a beauty on the shorthand. I loved after he scored, Wheeler came over and gave him a shove. (not a bad shove, but a "I can't believe you just did that" kind of shove).
Thomas played great again, and it looks good on Boston for only giving up 1 goal, since Wideman was scratched (no idea why yet), and we had 3 rookies on defence tonight.
Go Bruins!
