It's 135 and I have to get up early for a class in the morning and yet I cant leave a good game. How good does a game have to be for you to stay when ur exhausted or have something you need to do soon? I'm not evening running that hot at the moment but I know the game is massively +EV, god I feel like such an addict!!

I guess it would depend on how much you can expect to win, in comparison to the stakes you normally play. If you normally play 100NL and the game is just that, maybe make a buy in or two and split, if you have serious matters to take care of. But if you play 100NL and the game is like 400NL, stay, stay stay.

oh back in the day, I'd sleep from 4:00 am to 2pm, skipping my 11:00am and my 5pm classes

it's just now I have a job to go to.... in like 5 hours, for example

Here's a hint: that rarely works. Good luck.

It never works.

I'm considering calling in sick/quitting my job just to deal with it... LOL
iggymcfly
LOL. I've tried that like five times in the last couple months and it hasn't worked once. Even if it does work, it's only a few days before I stay in another poker game until 5 AM and start the process all over. It's sure lucky that I don't have school or a job to worry about any more.

This is easy. Just force yourself to stay up until your next reasonable bed time. Set an alarm for 20 mins later if you need to powernap.

No one can answer this for you.

The answer is as long as you can still play with a significant edge. I'd also say that your studies are important but missing class from time to time isn't the end of the world.

Its called a buddy list. Then you can just find the fish anytime they are on.

I keep trying to hammer this into my cousin's head and I'll say it here: if your playing good (not tired, not distracted, etc) and the game is still good, you are a fool to leave if you play poker to make money. Look at his post in the September goals sticky thread in General strategy. He was a table full of morons and left bc he was up. That's just flushing money down the drain when the marks keep reloading. He came with me up to San Fran so I can teach him to play, but being good does no good when you can't grind it out.

I keep playing as long as I feel like I'm playing my best AND the game is good.

Yesterday I went to the casino and played for several hours, I left the game while it was still good because I was tired and I'd just taken a couple of big suckouts and didn't think I was in the right mental frame of mind. It doesn't matter how good the game is, if you're not at your best.
sealster
yeah, I mean I know what everyone is saying I was just curious if people had different limits of time or anything for how long they can keep before reality catches up. I'm just a college kid who grinds 2/4 and 3/6 games mainly and the money is good but I dont need to make the few extra bucks for the sleep loss I think. Either way lots of fun and luckily I can stay up later tonight!!
No_Neck
I play until I am out of money or the fish is out of money.
antistuff
i will go without sleep that night if i find myself in a really good game

+1.

I once played at the Borgata from 10pm-8am straight through because the game was so good and I felt like I was playing my best. Once 10 hr mark hit I started to feel it and called it a day.

QFT... If you're winning, I have a hard time leaving at all unless you have to be somewhere. But being in the right mental state also has a lot to do with when you want to leave.
