Bet fold is better than check fold.
I guess that there are a couple hands that you can beat which may loosely call you (99 ?).

But I think check-calling is the best line.
Since there are not many hands that I can value bet, and I only have 3rd pair at this point, I like to give my opponent an opportunity to bluff at it.
This increases the cahcnes that my 1 bet will bring back dividends.

Bet/folding >>> check/calling against passive opponents.
Check/calling >>> bet/folding against aggressive/bluffer/tricky opponents.

Check/folding is pretty bad against everyone.
