This week is the season.

Suspensions to the fat Williams boys in Minnesota gives us a window.

I sure would like to have those 3 games they gave away earlier in the year back, however.

THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fck me, what a miserable season. Why couldn't they have just gone 3-13, gotten a good draft pick, and let me write off the season months ago. But no.. they string me along, up until the very end, then lay a stink bomb against a non-playoff team. The game wasn't on locally, so I had to watch the minnesota game instead. and in a way, I'm glad I didn't see that godawful performance. Thanks for nothing, bears.

I don't have much hope for the future, either. Their defense is old and getting older, their offense is severely lacking in talent ( with the notable exception of Forte) and I just don't see this changing. I think they are in a downward arc, and just missing the playoffs is the worst thing they could do, w/r/t rebuilding. Now they get a crappy draft pick with no chance at getting to the super bowl. Sweet.

April can't get here fast enough.

Da Bears!!! my favorite part about da bears is Ditka's resaurant in chicago...if that makes sense. I'm a Packers fan btw ftw?

Worst in the NFC Central this year?

The inactivity this offseason is just lolbad, they're the worst front office in football next to the raiders probably.

:Sftrue. I hate the ****ing bears, I want them to sell the team so badly. I keep hearing rumors that they are going to go capless after next season, and the Bears should, in theory, be poised to swoop in and be a top 5 spending team, due to their market and stadium and fanbase, but I would wager they'll be in the bottom quarter in spending in the capless era.

I love that the cap is going away in 2010. Jed York already said money isn't an issue when the league goes capless. smile.gif

(BTW, that's how the niners won their five superbowls. spending sprees.)
GeneralGeeWhiz
btw it's a joke that the Bears only have one super bowl for being a team rich in history and tradition. I guess it is never having a QB and horrible ownership.

Yeah and the last ones, weren't spending sprees, they just paid to keep their talent.

for the first time in their history, DA BEARS have a QB! smile.gif

The boycott is off. When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong. I also heard that Cutler is from Santa Claus indiana ( LOL?) and is a life long bears fan, and that his father, Jack Cutler, said this was the happiest day of his life. He could be the biggest athlete in the history of chicago.

I don't find this to be a likely scenario.

I don't find this to be a likely scenario.

1) the bears are the biggest team in town, by far. the baseball teams divide the city, the town cares about 10 times more about the bears than bulls, and about 30 times more about the bears than the blackhawks. Chicago is a bears town.

2) The bears, in my life time, have never had a great, pro bowl caliber quarterback, other than McMahon's 85 season.

3) chicago loves white athletes.

4) It will require him winning a super bowl ( or two).

5) Cutler is already a life long bears fan, having grown up in indiana.

All of this comes together for the potential to be huge. If cutler has a HOF career with a superbowl win or two, he'll be bigger in chicago than jordan. Not outside of chicago, but in the town itself, he'll be what Farve was to green bay. Now, I'm not saying that's LIKELY, but that's his ceiling.
El Guapo
Got Orlando Pace too. Good day for the Bears. But I agree with Urlacher, gave up too much. 2 Firsts is a lot for him.

I'm just not yet sold that Cutler can be that good. (By "that" good I mean the above, not that he can't be good at all.)

Did you read this?

I did read that, I listen to Dave's daily podcast.

And listen, I'm not saying he's a stone cold lock to be that good, but if he's a perennial all-pro, and a superbowl winner, he'll be bigger than Jordan. I think Dave's arguments for payton will be even more true for a great white quarterback who leads the bears back to glory.

OF course, he has to lead the bears to glory, first. He could also be a sour, devisive figure that the town comes to hate. Or he could break his neck in the preseason. It all comes down to results, but if he wins in chicago, he will be in the pantheon.

Am I the only person who doesn't think that Cutler is spectacular?

Yes. He's young, he's a pro bowler, he's YOUNG, he's entering his prime, he has a monster arm. He's got so much talent, it's unreal. We'll see if he realizes it, but I love this signing.
govikes
sadly i can only name one of his receivers..and that guy is a punt returner converted to receiver. I think the purple and white will be alright!

Training Camp Time!

Secondary is gonna be brutal I think, but hopefully we can just put up a lot of points for a change.

Good or bad, I'm excited to see this team play this year.

A pretty decent running game and no decent wide outs.. GL.

wow, loved reading these '06 posts, i visualized where i was for each of the games mentioned.

My favorite was the AZ MNF game, I went to bed with 4 minutes left in the game. I had bet my buddy SU at halftime on the game. Text message got me up in time to see urlacher being interviewed and me giggling like a schoolgirl.

BEARS.

The first pick was partly Desmond Clarke's fault, the second was kind of fluky, but that was just terrible.
brvheart
Holy crap that was an awesome sack.
BigDMcGee
what the ****?!? nice fake punt.
brvheart
That would have been a touchdown if Cutler had thrown it just a little farther.

Nice defense.

So much was the receivers fault, but people are going to blame Cutler all week long now.

Yes, 4 picks is a lot and you can't say he didn't have a bad game, but it was nowhere near as bad as everyone seems to think it was.

Olsen caught 1 out of 7 thrown to him, Clark I think was 1 out of 3 or 4. Hester was the only guy who caught everything, 4 for 4.

Not to mention the godawful route running they were doing.

Botched fake punt by Mannely.

This was far from Cutlers loss.
DrawingDeadInDM
You really don't think Cutler played poorly?

Yeah I do, but the amount of "Cutler sucks" nonsense I'm seeing and hearing is mind blowing.
El Guapo
There were some poor routes run, but flat footed throwing and tossing Favre style off your back foot is not going to get it done.

Urlacher done for the year.

AWESOME start to the season.

wow. 4 picks for Jay "bad karma" Cutler and they lose Urlacher. And I thought Miami had a bad season opener.

Espn is reporting that the Bears are in serious talks to sign Derrick Brooks to "replace" Urlacher. That's a good move. He is enough of a vet to have their system down in a week.
BigDMcGee
I think the first half was as poorly played as any offensive I've ever seen. I think Cutler got better as the game went on.. but there was one possession, I think his first interception, where he threw like 4 balls in a row that should have been picked, and finally he did. Were the recievers terrible? Yes. But cutler was as bad as could be. I will give him credit, he was able to shrug it off and come out much better in the second half.

DrawingDeadInDM
He threw more balls to Earl Bennet than Hester, Olsen and Forte combined. That might be a problem.

As a Packers fan, I think their biggest problem was not using Forte enough/properly. They weren't patient enough with the run and only one pass thrown his way? Really?
