Hi guys this is my first topic I've started. I really like what a lot of people have to say on here and am looking for some different strategies and descriptions on three bet vs four bet in razz.

We've all seen donkey after donkey raise with absolutely no strong starting hand and whatnot, and I'm not asking about them. I'd like to know when the appropriate time is for a four bet. Isn't pumping the pot like that more of a crapshoot if its too early in the hand? Perhaps I've been playing too many freeroll razz SNG's or tourneys to get the full feel for something like this.

After watching the $1000-$2000 game on FT, I dont see much if not any of this happening. Of course they all know what they are doing more than me (hopefully) smile.gif So when is the right tme for something like this?

Thank you in advance everyone. Go FCP!

you're probably right about it becoming a crapshoot. A23 against 567 is only about 55% to win. you should try to keep the pot as small as possible until 5th street when you can have a good idea where you're at in the hand.

unless of course you're playing against a maniac donk who has anything over an 8 showing and you have a three card wheel

I usually like to try and keep the pot small preflop like you said to see what happens and so I can get out cheap if I miss. The times to pump the pot preflop I think are when people limp in front, then someone raises and you wake up with a big hand like 3 to a wheel. You raise because you want to drive out the limper and increase your chances to win the pot. The only times I'll ever go beyond 2 bets preflop are: if you're on a shortstack and you know you're getting your chips in this hand no matter what (more valuable in a sng or mtt) then you might s well pump it on 3rd if you only have 3 or 4 small bets left so you can try and drive people out and get the pot heads up, or if you know you're a pretty big favorite: you raise in EP with (A4)5 and donkey decides to reraise with and 8 or worse showing for whatever reason, then sometimes I'll 3 bet it or sometimes I'll just smooth call so as not to give away the strength of my hand.

In a regular cash game with competent players then you want to keep the pot small on 3rd and 4th unless you know you have a huge edge, then push your edge on 5th and 6th street and hope that it holds.
