Villian just sat down, no read except that his connection is ridiculously slow. Am I too passive here? I would have bet a card <9 on the turn.

PokerStars 10/20 Hold'em (3 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 7, 7.

Final Pot: 6.50 BB

Unless you know the villain to be tricky, ie bluff raising turns, I would b/f the turn, and c/c the river.

As played, are you calling a river bet?

I don't really like the check/call on the turn. I think bet/fold is better against most players.

Only argument I can see for your line is if you're basically just trying to get to showdown as cheaply as possible and hoping to get a decent read.

I am trying to get the cheapest showdown possible, and I tend to default to this line against an unknown, but you're both right, I probably should bet/fold.

Also, I'm definitely calling a river bet here.

I don't mind the line since you're trying to get a cheap showdown and since you just sat down. It might be worth it to see what the villain has, so long as you're gonna continue to play with him for a while. I make calls from time to time that are strictly for info.

I agree with the others. Bet/folding the turn is the correct play.
