I'm not sure what I beat in hand 1
And it sure seems obvious that I am behind in hand 2.

Without strong reads on your opponents, are these calls always foolish?

whats with 3 betting the turn on hand 2? he prob hit a set and youre setting him up for money money

So this means you definitely don't advote calling the river raise...

I don't mind hand 1 b/c he could be on a straight steal and AQ-high might be the best hand. That diamond could certainly have hit him though. I'd rather call a non-diamond river here than a diamond one. I still think A-high could be the best hand here, but it's definitely read-dependent.

On hand 2 I hate your turn 3-bet with a passion unless you have a good read that says this guy is a maniac. I like calling the turn and check/calling the river against an unknown and probably folding the turn against a very passive opponent.

Does a raise here always mean that villain has better than TPTK?

I hate giving free showdowns when I have a strong hand.
So I really want to make sure another bet gets put in- either here or on the river.

Since opponents may be semi-bluff raising on the turn, getting in the extra bet there seems like the most sense.

Idea flawed?

If you had TPTK with a pair say like Jacks or Queens I'd agree, but theres just so many ways you can be beat on that board. AT isnt worth 3 betting when any set, 89, 67, maybe even T7 is playable. I'd slowdown after the turn and check/call.

That line looks like 89 or a flopped set. I think a flush semibluff woulda raised the flop and hoped that you would check the turn so he could get a freebie.

I also fold hand 1 on the turn. But I'm a tightwad whos a noob to SHLHE.

I appreciaite the opinions on my questionable turn 3bet.
It's a standard play of mine that may be poor.

I'm not certain that my river calls are always a good idea.
But I do strongly feel that there is a lot of loose money to be won in situations like this.

There are some players that have no business being hands.
But they don't have the wisdom to fold when they are obviously behind.
So they make these fancy bluff raises to try to steal the pot.

They risk a lot of chips with these bluffs, so it looks like they must have you beat.
But calling these down at the right times can lead to huge dividends.

In my opnion, the key is to recognize how you are perceived.

When you are seen making these loose calls, people will obviously bluff at you less often. So these risky calls become more foolish. So don't make them!

But if you have shown that you do not always go to showdown after raising preflop, you are going to be bluffed at.
And this is where the rewards from loose calls can come in.

And I included these two examples because in both cases the villain was bluffing and was terribly embarassed to show down the losing hand.
