Ronnie who? Lawrence who? It's all about Sean Taylor. Since his rookie year I've been on his jock saying he's the best defender in the league.

I love Urlacher. But...no. Not even close.
Taylor's a stud. He's been a stud since he came into the league. The man's a freak of nature.
If he can keep it to one arrest a year, there is no doubt that he will be one of the best ever on the defensive side of the ball.

Further, I would like to point out that I was talking about Gilberts avatar, not yours in my OP.... as your avatar is obviously gay, and wouldn't need mentioning. It was just bad luck that you were right above me.
And further still.... Sean Taylor is an awesome safety and he can hit almost as hard as Roy Williams. But as a cover corner Newman will go down in history as the better player at that position.

Sean Taylor surpassed Roy Williams before last season. Terrence Newman isn't a safety. Ed Reed of course is great, but Taylor's potential surpasses his Miami brethren's, and he's five years younger. Sean Taylor will go down in history with Ronnie Lott as one of the top two safeties ever. I would say this even if I wasn't a Skins fan.
And Troy Palamalooo, he's not in the top 10, js.
Just watch Taylor this year. I'll bet anyone he starts in the Pro Bowl for the NFC(at safety of course) against anyone else's pick. If they both start, we tie.

Taylor's attitude holds him back. If he approached the game like Jerry Rice, then Taylor has the talent to be the best Defensive player in the league. But he'll never approach the game that way.

Sean Taylor isn't smart enough to be the best defensive player. He's got talent, but he needs to pull back on his thuggery. I'd give it to Polamalu, although Merriman is making an early case. Honestly, until he matures, Taylor's not in my top five.

Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu are by far the 2 best safties in the nfl.

I'm still sticking by my convictions, best safety in the game. The second unnecesarry roughness call against the Vikings was, as people have pointed out, total bs and based solely on his reputation. In the Cowboy game he had a nasty hit on TO when the ball sailed over his head and he still popped him. He single handedly made TO scared and drop 3-4 passes. He probly even broke his finger

. The Skins pass defense would be tons better if they had kept Ryan Clark instead of signing that slow, white Jason Sehorn wanna be known as Adam Archulleta.

Im confused is the arguement best safety, best free safety or best overall defensive player?
Best free safety I would say he is right there, Williams too.
Best safety: He again is on the list, but the list grows.
Best overall defensive player, not yet. He has yet to prove that he can be a team leader, someone who makes the players around him and not just on defense better. A leader off the field, in the locker room, etc, I am not saying he won't or can't, but he has yet to do so. So until he does, there is no comparison to the likes of Urlacher, Lewis, etc.
just my opinion
