Full Version: Question About Turbo Tourneys

I just dont get how people can play these tournaments where blinds are 5 min long or STT where blinds last for 5 or 6 hands. I mean, its basically a contest to see who can catch the best cards the longest. Ive seen where with 50-60 left the blinds are like 1k/2k and the avg stack is like 6k and the CL only has like 20k.

How do you play these things

I think the STT can probably be played profitably. I don't have much experience with them though and would never really play the MTTs because as you noted it seems like too much a crapshoot.

I play the turbo Sats to the Sunday tourneys; both the Double Shoot and the Rebuy.

If you have any understanding of Harrington's Zone strategy and M; you have a big advantage over most of the players in these things. Pot odds also seems to be a foreign concept to many of the players. The skill level is horrendous in these tourneys which more than offsets the fast moving blind structure.

From a time perspective, you can play 3 or 4 of these tourneys in the same time it would take to play a regular Sat.

Also, the endgame in these turbo's is different as if you're close at the end, you can usually coast in as there will be plenty of players who don't factor in the rapidly escalating blinds or who don't understand that all prizes are equal.

I find it very +EV to play the turbo Sats
